I'm preparing for riots. I'll be hiding in my house. I'm glad I live in BFE and not in some city, I feel a little safer, at least I can turn my yard into a garden and still have food.

I think the government needs a big old downsize. I bet half of all government jobs could be cut and things would probably run better. That saying about too many cooks in the kitchen works for offices too.

That being said, you bet they make to much money..106 mil to throw a ball?
Some players do feel that they are above it all, but for how long in their lives have they been allowed to show no home training and gotten away with it. Think of all those folks who idolize these players, and not for their good works. Now there are players who do do good works, but that doesn't make as good of press as when they misbehave. I think good old fashioned shunning would work wonders to improve their behavior. You know what I mean? When they walk by, everyone turn their collective backs on them.. no sound bites run ad nauseaum. Personally I stopped going to games when the price for the bleachers when over a buck!

I don't watch sports at all, except bits and pieces of the olympics. My hubby doesn't watch sports other than monster trucks and pinks and I can tolerate those.

Things in this country are so backwards and people can't even see it.

Well I Doubt it will be a total disaster. GM needs to get its act together if it wants to survive. Bankruptcy is the time to do such reorganization. Should they Fail, I'm sure China will buy them out. China would love to get ahold of GMs advanced technology for their auto companies and GMs distribution network throughout the US.

I don't so much support Obama than thought Obama would be the lesser of 2 evils. McCain was just a Bush puppet. Obama at least wants to get the DEA off the backs of med states, which will save us all tax dollars.

Getting the DEA off the backs of med states will pave the way for more states to make med laws without the fear of federal government. McCain was rigidly against medical marijuana, he thinks marijuana is like crack. I guess he would know, his wife is a pill junkie.

Obama is more in our corner right now than McCain will ever be.

Here in Mass we passed the less an oz. just a ticket.
While there are projects of obamas that I do like, what I DON'T like is that he and his cronies want to rewrite the constitution based on their twisted definitions of words and that they believe that the US should be governed based on international opinion. PUHLEEEZE!!!! When the FF wrote what they wrote they knew what they meant. The words used were defined by their time, not our time and the bastardization of the language. I'm al;so concerned with howall these projects will be paid for.

They'll be paid for with yours and my tax dollars, just like the corporate welfare (700 Billion, Big oil, big pharma, big agra, etc), wars for the corps., etc. It's time the people got some benefit from their tax dollars.

A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford Motors) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River
Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.

Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 7 people steering and 2 people rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order; American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.

They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 2 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.

They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 2 people rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rowers. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses. The pension program was trimmed to 'equal the competition' and some of the resultant savings were channeled into morale boosting programs and teamwork posters.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid-o ff one rower, halted development of a new canoe, sold all t! he paddl es, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses.

The next year, try as he might, the lone designated rower was unable to even finish the race (having no paddles,) so he was laid off for unacceptable performance, all canoe equipment was sold and the next year's racing team was out-sourced to India.

Sadly, the End.

Here's something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US , claiming they can't make money paying American wages.

TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US The last quarter's results:

TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.

Ford folks are still scratching their heads, and collecting bonuses...

IF THIS WEREN'T SO TRUE IT MIGHT BE FUNNY

Hino Motors Ltd., Japan’s biggest maker of heavy-duty trucks, will post its first operating loss in nine years as a global recession cuts vehicle demand and a stronger yen reduces the value of overseas sales...

Hino’s forecast revision comes on the heels of Toyota Motor Corp. predicting its first operating loss in 71 years as the deepening global recession and a credit crunch saps demand. The truckmaker is half owned by Toyota and builds the FJ Cruiser and 4Runner sport-utility vehicles for the larger carmaker.

And guess what, it's all the unions fault. I just love all the hypocrites that blame all the poor management decisions that have landed the corporations in trouble on the unions, what a load of crap. I never worked for an auto mfgr., but all the union jobs I had didn't have a sit down clause, and you could be fired in a heartbeat. Nv. is a right to work state, which pretty much means an employer can fire you if he doesn't like the way you part your hair. It also means that employers generally win management-labor disputes, so union jobs are really just about the working conditions, benefits and pay, something they wouldn't be needed for if management weren't greedy pricks in general.

That's 1 state. At least in the 80's, the last time the big 3 were in a bit of trouble, The union workers who had been there 2 years got 52 paid days off, not bad out of 260. If i have that much time off, it means I don't get paid as most other workers.

Perhaps the UAW should sell it's award winning, championship-level, white elephant, golf resort before asking taxpayers to bail out the automakers.

http://www.blacklakegolf.com/

The UAW International's golf course and education center operations on 1,000 acres near Onaway have together lost $23 million over the past five years, independent audits obtained by the Free Press show. Both are run as for-profit corporations, according to paperwork filed with the U.S. Department of Labor, and the UAW has been propping them up with loans.

you mean like AIG should sell their island? or their fleet of jets? The auto industry needs 15 billion, the banks need 750 billion and AIG will get 100 billion. The banks and AIG don't even have a union, so who do they blame?

Since you provided no sourcing to back up your claims about AIG, I'll take your word for it.

In answer to your question: Yes. Companies with valuable assets unrelated to operations have no business coming to the taxpayers crying poverty.

In fact, companies have no business looking to the taxpayers to bail them out in the first place.

There's plenty of blame to go around vis-a-vis the American auto industry. Union legacy costs built in to every automobile are only one part of the problem.

   Yes Johnny, I so totally agree, make them sell their stuff. Isn't it Citibank that owns some baseball field that is newly built. People want it called Citibank / taxpayer stadium, not just Citibank stadium. (it may be a different company, but Im thinking it was citi, if I"m wrong about the company name, sorry in advance)

Why should they get to keep all their goodies while stealing our tax dollars? I know plenty of citizens that have been selling their own personal goodies to try to make ends meet. What's good for the taxpayer is good for the multi-million dollar corporations that have went broke by paying their CEO's unbelievablely outrages salaries.

miss..you are so right. But it gets better, When a company buys an existing stadium or event venue , in order to rename it they have to pay more. Recently one of these bloaters , that was going under, paid 400,000,000 for the privilege! Nearby us Circuit city was building a new store. Abruptly all worked stopped. The next day in the news I heard that they were closing 1500(?) store. Now I can't believe their financial situation was unknown until....SURPRISE!! Tis disgusting tis..

Corporations could not exist without Greed. The stock market could not exist without greed. Greed is running the world at present, and there seems to be no cure.
