so mh is best for vegging is it because it operates closer toi the blue spectrum..and the hps is opposite.....if thats the case then i have to get a dual system..if its just prefrence i need to know

It depends on my pain level at the time, I'm a med patient with enough pain to get a dozen people qualified.

Yup oregons right... The wiring for the econo is a piece of cake... there's a tutorial in wiring the econolights and other hps in the 150w hps club thread, in my sig for anyone who's interested in doin a remote ballast etc..
Hps works very well for veg, i dont own an MH setup anymore, just use the 150w hps from start to finish.
Yes MH operates in the blue spectrum which is ideal for Vegging and the Hps are close to 2000-2700k so those are the correct spectrum for flower.

I think I'm going to just get 4 $20 (haha...4-20) 150w HPS lights from e-conolight. I'm not in any hurry to grow...I just want to be able to make the most of my flowering cycle.

Scranny420 unless you are wanting to split the lights up and run seperate areas it would be to your advantage to get a single 400 or 600. The larger lights are more efficient and throw more lumens per watt, by a lot.

And conversion bulbs are as expensive as just buying a dedicated fixture and normal bulb if you do want halide. Just a better value to get two full fixtures there.

- 4 x 150w HPS = 60000 lumens for $80
- 1 x 600w HPS = 70000 lumens for $250

Well your numbers are off a little.

600w=95,000 lumens

4x150w = ~15,000 times 4 except never has the same intensity or throw

And you can find bargain 600's around $150 or less, sometimes 100 range.....

up to you my man, but the 600 would stomp the 150's

Wow does that ever cut down on the overall lumens.

I've never tried one, but I have a feeling it would suck compared to a regular cheap $25 hps bulb.

That 600 right there looks like a great start and htg is a great company.

I would suggest if hydro sounds like your thing you look into building your own bubble buckets or similar hydro system. There are step by step guides and everything, and those will work better, be cheaper, and net you way more end product. And you can fit four buckets under a 600 easily and be harvesting over a pound without any fancy nutrients or anything. Even a simple ebb and flow tray like the greenman did in "I grow chronic" seems more versatile and a better option than that sunleaves system.

However I don't grow hydro and still never have, and I don't normally set up hydro systems for med patients here either. Dirt is a better place for people to start in my honest opinion.
