im having a weird problem with rollitup at the moment ......when i post something in a thread sometimes it will just put my post like right in the middle of the thread somewhere and not in the correrct order , im not sure if other people see it in the corrrrect place or not.

(Treading lightly in the presence of greatness here!) Uhhhh... Yes. I'll go ahead and say "yes I'm pushing LED's over HPS" One of the members here had an HPS bulb to blow in his grow room, the glass shattered and hot stuff went all over and caught something on fire. It did over $8,000 worth of damage, killed all his plants and his neighbor came running to help him put the fire out and discovered that he was growing. But it was cool with the neighbor.what? are you pushing LED's over HPS? and you say you fear fire from HPS? wow.
Back to the subject of LED's vs HPS: I can't be 100% certain but from the initial results of it, I will not be hooking up my HPS this year. These LED's are the fricking bomb; my plants are growing ...like a minature version of yours!
I absolutely, totally admire and respect you FDD, and I know I'm in the minority here but I have to go with what I've seen so far. I would like to do a side by side comparison but I don't have enough plants for that and, realistically, the only fair way to do it would be to start with clones, go all the way through and weigh the results. I suppose the flavor and high would be the same but there would probably be some difference in weight one way or the other. I don't know how the buds are going to do, they might turn out to be light and fluffy like momma's biscuits - but then who knows. The most criticism of LED's is from people that have never even used them. I bought them mainly cause I grow in a grow cabinet and the HPS makes it so darn hot in there. ...and they look so amazingly cool too. Just because the HPS is BRIGHT doesn't mean that the plant can actually use all of that light. Plants actually only use a very narrow spectrum of light and the LED's provide just that narrow band.every flowering plant i have seen under LEDs looked sickly. i'd like to see otherwise. i guess i'll wait to see yours.(Treading lightly in the presence of greatness here!) a blown bulb breaking glass does not start a fire. there is more to that story. something else was not right.

This blown bulb, did he put a 800 in a 400 watt ballast? Or maybe an 800 in a 1000 watt ballast? These are things that could make the bulb explode. If your ballast is made for 400 watts then you can only put 400 watts in it.

Maybe it was a home wiring job? My neighbors down the street have that kind of problem. The husband did the wiring and their house has caught on fire twice in the last 5 years.

That's why it really bugs me when people on here talk about their jerry-rigged HPS/MH setups. It's a huge accident waiting to happen.

i've heard that cfls and leds don't project enough lumens far enough to beat hps.
