Motorists should check their license plates tonight to make sure they don't ring in the New Year with a ticket.
Starting Thursday, it is illegal for a car's license-plate frame to obscure the word 'Arizona.'
Motorists may be pulled over if 'Arizona' isn't visible on their plate, and fines will average $135 plus court fees, depending on the city where the violation is discovered.

Are they fucking kidding? They can't figure out it's an Arizona plate just by looking at it? OMG.

Check the cop cars when you see them, make sure the word Arizona is visible on the plates.

in Torrance, CA they don't allow clear plastic covers for the license plate, it's just another way to earn more money.

That's exactly what it is. I saw this on ABC15 and said, "Are you shitting me? The speed cameras and now this bullshit?" All of it is purely for more profit.

its a pretty common law (AZ, CA, & IL are just the tip of the iceberg) and actually applies to all of california, not just Torrance...most cops just arent THAT big of dicks to write up every license plate cover they see...

no cover, tinted or clear, can rest over the license plate number according to CA Vehicle Code Section 5201f

yes, its a crock of shit and gives LEO a bullshit reason to pull someone over and waste their time, but it was created because of the license plate covers that block police from taking radar readings...its a small fine ($146) and the fine for selling one is larger (around $900 when all's said and done per item sold) according to CA vehile Code Section 5201, 5201.1

I suggest everyone make sure their plates are clean. From the way the law(s) read...anything that the officer thinks obscures the plate could be grounds for a ticket. Years ago I was told by an officer that me license plate (rear) was covered with snow and it was my responsibly to clear it and keep the plate clearly visible.

^yup...i got pulled over because my tow hitch (knob on the back of the car to tow) was "obstructing the visibility of the license plate number"

it was some BS...but he didnt give me a ticket

Yeah, nothings better than when someone scrapes up against the side of your car, and speeds off leaving you with no visible license plate number to report on.
