NO NEVER AT ALL EVER!! those big fan leaves are the power-plants for your plants power. some times you can cut off the very top where the newest growth is. this is a grooming technique called topping. but there is really never any reason to cut off your big fan leaves

+REP i wish sombody would have told me that with my first grow!! But yes dont do it! you will fuck your final yield up for sure, i did i pruned the shit out of 4 of my plants and only ended up with 2 OZ dry

If fan leaves block the light from new growth, then I take them out, 1/3rd per week. With good balanced soil, healthy soil, this can be done to double your overall yield. Within 1 week, the fan leaves re-grow. Not allowing the light to be directed to as much of the actual growth of the plant, it's like putting a shade on your lights. BS. On one plant, maybe 3 today, a few more 3 days later, ONLY if they block the light. In nature, I hired the Grasshoppers to do my trimming. In other words, getting fan leaves trimmed is natural. One Guy said his initial fan leaves, one of them, would wrap a Basket Ball. I want one of those to frame for my wall. I get 1 lb. per, but I don't do the bonsai shit. You must also have good lighting. The Sun puts out 72,000 to 90,000 lumen. Indoor, I use 1,000 watt air cooled, on track lighting system. If your plant isn't busting loose with new growth, something is wrong. Good Luck.

I come on here with the same question.....i just put 6 G13's into flowering at about 14-15" tall already. Some of the fan leaves are pretty big and do cause some shading, i just push some out of the way so they aren't blocking as much light. But what does anyone else think, is it better to leave them or take some off?

Later in flowering you could cut some fans. I do not cut them.

those fan leaves do absolutely nothing... solar panels untill put into flowering... but if you think there gonna help your buds get bigger.. leave em lmfao.. foolish... chop those bitches...it sends the nutes elsewhere instead of those useless leaves... i chopped em all but 4 at the top.. my shits exploding...read and weep... everybody has a different opinion on the matter... if you like thc infested nugs that are dense as fuck...you'll chop half those fan leaves..and give your buds the light and nutes they need the most.

Im not sure what school of growing socalkushman comes from, but i am positive that there is nothing useless about big giant fan leaves taking in tons of light. i will add a caveat to my first comment. sometimes, when you are growing in a small space, with relatively few plants, a certain amount of pruning and redirecting during the VEG state is productive in increasing your overall yeild. but, to suggest that you dont want light and nutes going to your leaves and instead into your flowers is completely assanine and proves a lack of understanding about how plants use photosynthesis to grow.
so is it the flowers where the photosynthesis takes place socalkushman? is that why you want those pesky fan leaves out of the way of your bud production?

bahahahahaha, fan leaves provide the circulation of NPK to your buds through the roots they are the reason your plant cycles photosynthesis its how they feed themselves and make energy out of the light they recieve.

Let me ask you. How do you feed your plant? How do you tell when they need nutes. THE LEAVES they indicate when they are low on nutrients and need to be fed.
