An old newbie

After reading enough to make my eyes bleed and my head just about explode, I thought it time to post a thought or three and a bit about me.

Originally from a large northeastern city, I've been living the past twenty years in a town of thirty five hundred in the southeastern u.s. I became an official senior citizen earlier this year so my golfing buddy and I decided on the course on day, we should try a grow. I ordered some Caramelicious from AMS and we split the seeds. He got his grow started last week and all is going well. I have several challenges for my grow with space being the one thing I don't have. I ended up using the top of a closet. It's four foot long and sixteen inches wide. I also don't have much room for heighth, maybe thirty inches. I'm using two, two tube forty watt four foot fluros with daylight lamps 6500k, I'll switch tubes later for flowering. My soil is scotts premium for container plants and I've mixed perlite and worm castings into the soil.

I'm going to attempt the dutch method since I have so little space. I'm using twenty four ounce party cups. I have a bit of pebble in the bottoms for extra drainage and some extra weight. They are six inches high and four around. I'll have eighteen to keep under the limits of my states laws. I started my germination earlier this evening and my soil is watered and covered with baggies and getting acclaimated to my grow space. I plan on going twelve/twelve from seedlings and as soon as they sex I'll get rid of the males and replace them with new seedlings since I'm using the 12/12 method. I'm going for one good bud from each plant.

Thoughts, comments and suggestions are all welcome.

From one Senior Citizen to another I say WELCOME.

I grew way back in the day (70's) and now on my second grow in this millenium. Could not have done it without RUI. This site is without a doubt the most informative and friendly I have found.

Tired of the prices, tired of relying on my adult children to find my smoke. Just started the process for medical marijunia so I can be "legal".

Good luck, keep reading and keep us posted on how things are going.

FYI next time for seeds give attitude a try. I really like them. Good quality stealthy shipment and very fast.

Welcome to RUI. I'm a newbie too.

Reeny, you said it! My husband just got his medicinal card and for all the above reasons. It absolutely beats taking oxycodon for chronic back issues.

RUI is an awesome source of information, good will, and some pretty funny posts!

Thanks for the welcome to all who responded.

First full day of germination almost complete. Using paper towel in dark covered box method. As of yet, no tap roots. As mentioned in my original post, I am in a very confined space. I only have one of my two four foot lights going and I'm curious as to the range in temps and humidity plants will thrive, not just live. I have two teenage girls running around and they know nothing and I hope to keep it that way as long as possible. My temps are staying fairly steady around 82f with humidity in the mid fifties.

I'm all set with my soil and my lights. Question, once the germinated seeds have been put into the soil, should they be under lights before breaking ground or kept in the dark?

My one mystery plant is now about three days old and under 12/12 light/dark and doing quite nicely. First set of serrated leaves have developed and the plant does not appear to be stretching to reach the light which is only about in inch away. I have a 90cfm computer fan moving the air.

As soon as this caveman figures out how, I'll post pics.

Peace
