Warning on cloning powder label???

I just read the label on my Bontone rooting powder and the first line in the directions is: "Do not use on plants that are to be used for food or feed."

Do they all have warnings like that? The only listed active ingredient is Indole-3-butyric acid @ .10%

I found a thread on an organic gardening board, and the consensus seems to be that the active ingredient can be mildly irritating to the skin, and can upset the stomach as well, but it's no major biohazard risk.

If anyone has info to the contrary, I'd like to hear about it.

Hmmm, interesting. Your post made me go check my rooting stuff. I have Clonex gel which doesnt say anything like that, but also lacks the same ingredient (its only N-P-K)
BUT my miracle grow fast root powder has the warning label and the ingredient.

It seems like they're all the same basic ingredient, and lots of people here use the stuff. I guess the warning is just for liability purposes.

i would think there are such small amounts on the indevidual plants that after all the water, and after weeks of flowering.. there is nothing harmfull left?

i wouldnt like... rub it in your eyes or anything though...

Indole-3 is not the main ingredient in most cloning compounds,we went through this about a year ago in a cloning gel experiment where we all tried different cloning powders & gels,in the middle of the thread we gathered all the info on the contents of powders/gels used & most do not use indole-3,some do,most dont.

Anyhow indole-3 is harmless in our application as far as i could ever find out,i use Root Tone powder which has indole-3,we did find out that the product "root tone" may have some issues with using it because of the active ingredient.

i use clonex and shultz take root at the same time and i get 99% success... just to let some of you know its okay to mix and get good results.

My powder is 99.9% unlisted, inactive ingredients, whatever that means.

Since you use a product with the indole-3, and I don't think you're dead, I'll assume it's ok

I just looked at the materials handling data sheet for Bontone (.1% indole-3), and according to the manufactururer, it poses no health risks, and should be treated as a nuisance dust... whatever that means.

I've only attempted one clone so far with the Bontone, but I think it's going to survive. It's been a little over 2 weeks and it seems like it's started looking a little better the last couple days. It's in soil so I can't really see how well it's rooted. Let me know how it works out for you.
