H2O2 illegal?

Hydro-dummy (the dweeb at my local hydro store) said it was illegal to sell H2o2 now. Is that true? Is this a California thing or a US regulation? Any info on that rule or information on where it can be purchased would be helpful.

He said he thought it was illegal, then he called his supplier and confirmed it. But he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed!

Is it illegal to HAVE h2o2, or just bad to sell it? If I use 6% . . . should I use 6x as much? If I can only get 3%, should I use 12x as much? That doesn't seem like a good idea! That would be WAY too much experimenting at this stage, unless someone has done it successfully.

I add 17 ml 3% per liter and have been for awhile. Not root rot and no damage to the plants

35% & 50% H2O2 are getting difficult to source. SuperOxy H2O2 has been pulled from the shelves in the SouthEast so its not just Cali.

It is a matter of stores and distributors not wanting to deal with the regs that come with storage, shipment and sale of certain chemicals....lotta regs ya know......a chemical/med supply should be able to source it still and Farm Supply Companies that sell to commercial greenhouse and hydro farms should definately be able to help. It is a matter of finding someone with the proper license. Retailers, hydro shops and the like ddon't care to deal with it.......it is highly combustible and likely on the "watch list" since it is also a component for certain chemical explosives.

Sucks but its not just Cali anymore........

The difficulty in getting it makes me want to get EXTRA, if I ever find a source. But I am no better equipped to store dangerous liquids than my local hydro guys is! Does this stuff have a shelf life I need to be concerned about? Would a case of it be extravagant or dangerous? Approx how long would 1 gallon last with refilling 2 20gal rez each week? Thanks ;)

No danger in a cool, dark place. If handled properly it is not a threat to your safety....follow the warnings on the label of course. I bought out the entire chain that I shop from.....about 6 stores worth of it....no probs.

As for the rate of consumption for your op.....I know you can do the math....if you are growing hydro you need to be able to do the math......

2-76 liter resevoirs = 152 L x 1.5ml (or 1.7) = 228 ml twice a week (dosing every 3-4 days)

1 gallon = 3800ml/228= # weeks each gallon will last. (looks like 15+weeks with plenty to use for cleaning, without using a calculator)

Round down and use the extra from each gallon for cleaning and sterilization.

:peace:

This is what I found out. I Made some phone calls this Monday, to the Cal. EPA and to the Cal. Dept of Pesticides. Nobody knows anything about any laws bannining the sale of H2O2. The guy at the local hydro store told me Grotek no longer sells super-oxy(their website doesnt list it) , but he doesnt know why. I called Grotek to find out why they no longer make super-oxy, but they have not returned my call. There are quite a large number of venders selling "food grade" H2O2, on the internet, that told me they would have no problem shipping me "food grade" H2O2. The shipping companys do consider it a hazerdus matireal, so there is an extra haz/mat charge, but they (H2O2 seller) have not heard about any law forbidding them from shipping to CA.

That is one of the ways the US government controls the population. If they tried to make the selling of 35% & 50% H2O2 illegal it would result in claims of unconstitutionalities, overstepping of bounds, etc and there would be legal challenges. So how does Uncle Sam stop the greasy filthy masses from using legal things that the government doesn't want you to use? They just regulate the living hell out of it, to the point nobody is able or willing to jump through all the hoops they put in place.

Consider yourself legally controlled.

Last week, I did a quick google seach for Grotek. Three sites said "Not available in CA." This week, 2 of those sites say "Not for sale in California at this time"

Why would an internet site temporarily suspend shipment to only one state? It sounds like they are just as confused as we are.

But they wont or dont say why. I called the customer service number, but no responce. There are other sources for H2O2, the guy at the CA/Dept of Pestacides said I should check with a chemical co. He told me he used it all the time in his work with feritlizers. Like I said, nobody I spoke with at the E.P.A. or any seller I spoke to knowes anythink about any laws banning H2O2. Check with these people they will ship you some. http://www.dfwx.com/goewebsite.htm?gclid=CK2g8b2Dj5gCFSEfDQodLTnRCg
