Growing Plants Upside Down

Can you grow a plant upside down?

Say they are about 7 or 8 inches tall and I seal the pots so the dirt wont fall out, and hang the plants from the ceiling with the lighting (I use fluoros and CFLs) on the bottom. Would they grow hanging upside down?

I'm asking because since I use fluoros... cuz it happens to be what I've got, the top buds are going to be bigger and firmer so why not make them the most concentrated? by hanging them upside down! lol so yeah someone tell me if that would work...

why dont you just grow them normally, clip the bottom growth to concentrate and maximize the top growth ? You can grow them any which way you want, just seems pointless, and a lot of unnecessary work, to get the same results.

Sounds interesting Hooker. I am sure it will work but I think watering will be a pain. If you water through the bottom of the pot wount that put the water at the base of the plant, poss weakin the stem where it meets soil. I wonder how the roots will grow? at the bottom or top if inverted I mean? HUM? Think it will work though. Just my .02

It should would be interesting to see. Maybe you could set a drip system to feed them from the top/ bottom of the plant. Where would the excess water go though? And I'm curious whether gravity would play a part in the root system since their hung upside down. Would the roots continue to grow down... or upside down... if that makes sense. It would be cool if it could work.

What if you did like a hanging pot and Low Stress Trained it down toward the light. You would have to start with lights above until you could train it down, but it would probably do what you are looking for instead of hanging the pot upside down.

pretty sure it would only work using rock wool, otherwise you would probably drown the plant, due to little to no drainage. Although plants seem to find a way to survive, I doubt it would yield more, or be as potent as a stress free plant. Maybe drip feed from holes in the side of the container, but if you block the bottom, there is no room for air flow either, potentially rotting the roots. Use rock wool, as it maintains consistent moisture levels, its pretty much a guaranteed fail using soil.

This sounds like the best idea so far, seems like you would get the same results without as much hassle. I say try it. post pics though.

Its actually no different from LST...

See, what basically would happen is, after a couple of hours u'll see the plant turning itself upsidedown in search of light.... light or no light, plants grow opposing the Gravity, thats nature, u cant change it... it helps for the reverse osmosis talking place within the plants... if u fuck with it, it'll say Fuck U back .. jk man...

hanging the plants is not a good idea.... it wont help much, other than stunting the growth and fucking the plant.... I'd say LST it...im doing LST on my current grow and am very satisfied with LSD and topping till now.... i dont mind my plants growing like bushes

it wont work with the light source at the bottom. THe roots go with gravity.... and moisture coz they have auxins that get attracted to them. When u water the mosture will go down towards the light making the roots go down. or up if u know what i meant owards the surface which is not good and wont create a nice structure of roots. BUt ive heard of plants growing upside down outside where they create a U shape like they tie it to a tree upside down and it bends round to go to the light. but if the lights at the bottom its gonna grow but i dont think its good for roots.

yes it will work . growers in hawaii do that shit all the time in the huge trees in whats left of the native forests out in hana in maui and other islands. they hang them upside down to make them less suspicious to green harvest helicopters, and it produces monster colas. do it with an indica dominant strain for best results.

People grow Tomatoes and Cucumbers upside down and have great yields.... Bt imo, its not really useful in our case, i'd vote for LST anyday man...

Weed is Gravitropic, this is why if you flip a shoot with a flower on it upside down, the flower will flip back up within a hour or 2 with light or no light.

To put it in simple terms, there are "starchy" cells that will settle towards gravity.

If you put a healthy plant upside down, even with a light source underneath, all the branches would flip over and stretch for the ceiling. The roots would start drooping towards the floor. And the part thats closest to the floor (the "top" of the plant) would develop big gross wart looking things that would try to pop out roots..... and eventually the plant will just die from stress.

It would be a horrible disaster. It would be like Marijuana plant Snuff.... Its torture to a Chronic plant. Please dont do it.

His idea is sound if he keeps the plant rightside up and just trains it downward towards the light. No, No you cant.

Weed is gravitropic.....When you flip a branch upside down and tie it, the tip will curl back up regardless of light. PERIOD.
