I tried to do the whole spiral around the pot idea but the side branches bushed out so quick I gave up on the idea. I still LST'd the branches to grow more outward than inward.
I think I LST'd too young and too much, maybe but just be sure to not over bend your stems-- I LSTd a mainstem before and it ended up cracking like an hour later...luckily I was still in veg and the plant recovered very nicely( almost seemed to help it)

What you described is called super cropping, you pinch a spot on the stem and bend it down to 45 or 90 degrees. As the plant heals, it bends back upwards, and it increases the bushiness of the plant. It also reduces vertucal growth if you are running out of space, you can super crop, and even tie them down and that stem will shoot up new buds all the way down it.
