cfl help!!

hey guys,

i'm a pure hps light guy and have little knowledge of florescent lighting...so right to it...i want to get florescents to keep my mother plants in and also to start my cloning operation...these lights just pull less power than my 600w hps...so i was thinking of going with the florescent bars with a reflector(sorry dont know the lingo)...i just need to know how much lighting i need for these operations...i will have 2-3 mother plants...and will be cloning 20-30 seedlings at a time...any help will be great...

I my self would do a 30-40 watt cfl for each mother. and for the clones use a t5 flouro tube setup

First of all, if you are going to use CFL's, you are going to want way more than 1 cfl for each mother. You can check out my journal to see my lights. You want to shroud the plants with the lights so that the light penetrates your entire plant

He is looking for lights to keep his mother not grow plants to flower.

Most mothers grow and continue to produce more cuttings than a small farmer can take. A 42 watt cfl(3000 lumens) would allow a mother to grow at a steady rate and produce plenty of clones.

I believe the original post was to reduce energy use and adequately utilize some cfls to grow mothers not trees.

That one light on na mother plant is just not going to be enough, unless that one mother is tiny!

i use 8, 26 WATT (800 watt equivelant) spiral type cfls over 3, 1 gallon pots. sometimes mothers sometimes for seedlings. my cabinet is about 4sq feet and that is plenty to keep them growing and for reveging.
