I'll tell ya......You should easily be able to run 2000 watts without worrying.....maybe more..... The biggest thing is TO PAY YOUR ELECTRIC bill on time......and DON'T steal electricity....you should be fine.....

400-600 watts really is the way to go,,,a 1000 tops,,,anything more than that could be suspicious,,,some ppl will call the electric company and say that theyve just bought some new electrical equipment for work or to make music,or woteva and ask how much extra itll raise there bill by,,,,that way the electric company think the reason why your using more electric is for legitamate reasons,not coz your growing anything,,,,,peace

the rule of green thumb is 1000 watts per bedroom .2 bedrooms 2000watts with no concerns.... watch out for the smell. meter readers can smell. and they may not bust you. but they have been known to ratt and steal... my meter man smoked all my out door last year. i moved and moved it in doors . it wasnt even near my meter.

try to save electric around your house, like in my pc i have a 1000 watt cpu because i have 2 top end graphic cards, i bought a 400 watt psu and remove the linked graphic cards when iam not on games. right there i save 600watt, and iam on the computer quite a bit.
daytime lights on,
night time lights off, but computer is in full swing gaming mode, even it out abit.
put energy bulbs threw out your house.
loads a stuff you can do to try and even your bill out when growing,
unplug stuff when not in use etc etc.

The summer is coming and a lot of ppl use air conditioners, this is a big draw on elec.
Replace all of the old light bulbs with cfls, and unplug any unused elec. units.
Most ppl don't care that you are using more elec. Just keep your smell in check, don't have tons of ppl coming and going.

outlawed in the us. Doesn't mean that they do it, but the supreme court ruled against a police officer walking down the street with a infared camera, looking for grow ops. Against personal privacy I believe. Cops are suposed to have a search warrent for using them on houses. I would immagine it would be the same for helecopters. It of course doesn't mean they don't do it. Cops can often do whatever they want, once they catch you it's up to you and your lawyer to get out of it. Once you get caught with a shitload of weed most of your rights are up for grabs, unfortunately, and most judges will let a few of your intangable rights go if they know you grew 5 lbs of cronic.

Yeah, anything more sophisticated than a pair of binoculars they need a warrant. But power companies can and will use "Non-intrusive Load Monitoring" (NILM) to search for drug production. It's basically a profile of your energy use. And things like, oh say, a 1000 watt spike 18hrs a day for several weeks, then 12hrs a day is probably very, very suspicious.
But fuck knows where their priorities are, I imagine they're just looking for big scores, but it seems like LEO's do what they want, when they want, so.. yeah.. watch your ass if you're using a lot of power on a steady cycle.

Personally, to answer this question effectivly, the fewest watts is the safer answer. No watt pulling is the best answer, but that isn't really an option for us. So more or less, if you can get away with a 150 watt hps, do that. If not, then move up till you can get by. If you are planning on going commercially, I don't think i can help you. Not that I won't, just can't, no experience.

People get busted by telling others what you do, friends are a pot growers worst enemy. I have run always 2000w and ocassionally 4000 in the same place, i grew at that location for many years no problems. as far as the electric company is concerned you bought a deep freeze or started a band. a jump in usaged doesn't mean grow operation, JUST DONT TELL ANYONE YOUR FRIENDS WILL GET YOU BUSTED.

I just thought I would chime in here. I'm an electrician, and an authorized contractor for three local utilities. I work in electric meters everyday, I know them like I know the creases in my balls, and I can assure you, unequivocally, there is nothing in a standard electric meter that is capable of monitoring when you use power. At least not in my area of the country. They only monitor how much power you use, and the utility reads the meter once a month, does some simple math, and figures your bill. Now most utilities have programs whereby they will charge you more at peak demand times and less at off peak times, but you have to sign up for these programs. The utility will send someone out to install a special meter. I've worked in well over 1500 meters and have only seen ONE installed in a residence. They are more often found with large commercial/industrial users, since the average residential user won't save much money. So there you go, take it or leave it.
