Just like George Washington was not the 1st President he was the 8th...I didnt know this until today...The first president was a blackman, Obama is the 2nd with black skin

Don't go checking the encyclopedia for this guy's name - he is one of those great men that are lost to history. If you're extremely lucky, you may actually find a brief mention of his name. [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation. [/FONT]
[FONT=helvetica,arial]This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777. Maryland refused to sign this document until Virginia and New York ceded their western lands (Maryland was afraid that these states would gain too much power in the new government from such large amounts of land). [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]Once the signing took place in 1781, a President was needed to run the country. John Hanson was chosen unanimously by Congress (which included George Washington). In fact, all the other potential candidates refused to run against him, as he was a major player in the revolution and an extremely influential member of Congress. [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]As the first President, Hanson had quite the shoes to fill. No one had ever been President and the role was poorly defined. His actions in office would set precedent for all future Presidents. [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]He took office just as the Revolutionary War ended. Almost immediately, the troops demanded to be paid. As would be expected after any long war, there were no funds to meet the salaries. As a result, the soldiers threatened to overthrow the new government and put Washington on the throne as a monarch. [FONT=helvetica,arial]All the members of Congress ran for their lives, leaving Hanson as the only guy left running the government. He somehow managed to calm the troops down and hold the country together. If he had failed, the government would have fallen almost immediately and everyone would have been bowing to King Washington. In fact, Hanson sent 800 pounds of sterling siliver by his brother Samuel Hanson to George Wasington to provide the troops with shoes.[/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]Hanson, as President, ordered all foreign troops off American soil, as well as the removal of all foreign flags. This was quite the feat, considering the fact that so many European countries had a stake in the United States since the days following Columbus. [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]Hanson established the Great Seal of the United States, which all Presidents have since been required to use on all official documents. [/FONT]

[FONT=helvetica,arial]President Hanson also established the first Treasury Department, the first Secretary of War, and the first Foreign Affairs Department. [/FONT]

Hanson was of African descent

Dick Gregory, comedian and African-American activist, publishes an on-line column called Global Watch. In one of his columns he repeated most of the myths and added a new one, that John Hanson was the descendant of an African American slave.[8]
There are two possible origins for this belief. The first is that Hanson's grandfather, another John Hanson, was an early English immigrant to Maryland. As was common at the time, he worked as an indentured servant on his arrival in the New World to pay off the cost of his passage. In 1661, his first master, William Plumley, sold his contract to Edward Keene and recorded the contract with the court of Calvert County, Maryland; similar court records were also used to transfer title to land and slaves. But, in six years, the immigrant John Hanson had worked his way out of debt. A few years later, he purchased his own small farm. There is no record that the grandfather was black, but the record of sale of the indenture contract may have been confused by researchers with that of chattel slavery.
Another alternative may be a simple case of confusion with Senator John Hanson, a politician from Liberia, who was involved with the resettlement of freed slaves in that country. Whilst this Hanson was indeed black, he lived a hundred years too late to be an ancestor of Hanson of the Continental Congress.

Their is also another way to look at this...Today I have been researching...looking for the true...this applies after the U.S. Constitution was written



Were there other "black" presidents? Some historians have reason to believe people don't really understand the genealogy of past U.S. Presidents. Research shows at least five U.S. presidents had black ancestors and Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president, was considered the first black president, according to historian Leroy Vaughn, author of Black People and Their Place in World History.

Vaughn's research shows Jefferson was not the only former black U.S. president. Who were the others? Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge. But why was this unknown? How were they elected president? All five of these presidents never acknowledged their black ancestry.

Jefferson, who served two terms between 1801 and 1809, was described as the "son of a half-breed Indian squaw and a Virginia mulatto father," as stated in Vaughn's findings. Jefferson also was said to have destroyed all documentation attached to his mother, even going to extremes to seize letters written by his mother to other people.

President Andrew Jackson, the nation's seventh president, was in office between 1829 and 1837. Vaughn cites an article written in The Virginia Magazine of History that Jackson was the son of an Irish woman who married a black man. The magazine also stated that Jackson's oldest brother had been sold as a slave.

Lincoln, the nation's 16th president, served between 1861 and 1865. Lincoln was said to have been the illegitimate son of an African man, according to Leroy's findings. Lincoln had very dark skin and coarse hair and his mother allegedly came from an Ethiopian tribe. His heritage fueled so much controversy that Lincoln was nicknamed "Abraham Africanus the First" by his opponents.

President Warren Harding, the 29th president, in office between 1921 and 1923, apparently never denied his ancestry. According to Vaughn, William Chancellor, a professor of economics and politics at Wooster College in Ohio, wrote a book on the Harding family genealogy. Evidently, Harding had black ancestors between both sets of parents. Chancellor also said that Harding attended Iberia College, a school founded to educate fugitive slaves.
Coolidge, the nation's 30th president, served between 1923 and 1929 and supposedly was proud of his heritage. He claimed his mother was dark because of mixed Indian ancestry. Coolidge's mother's maiden name was "Moor" and in Europe the name "Moor" was given to all blacks just as "Negro" was used in America. It later was concluded that Coolidge was part black.
The only difference between Obama and these former presidents is that none of their family histories were fully acknowledged by others. Even though Obama is half-white, he strongly resembles his Kenyan father. And not only is Obama open about his ancestry, most people acknowledge him as a black man, which is why people identify Obama as the first black president of the United States.

The United States Constitution constitutes the nation (hence the term "constitution"). So before the constitution was ratified there was no United States, and if there was no United States, there could not be a President of the United States. The country created under the Articles of Confederation, though comprised of the same people living in the same land, was an entirely different nation.

I don't consider those "lies" I consider that to be a smart move. "All's fair in love and politics" JM could have done the same. Now if he starts lying to us, I'll be the first to aknowledge it.

Public campaign funds made the most sense for him. He's got the people behind him. Would you rather a candidate do the dumb thing when it comes to being elected, like McCain for instance?
