sup, had a few quick questions about a new system i'm assembling... i picked up a 4x4x6.5foot grow tent and a 400 watt hps light with standard reflector. wondering if a cool tube is really necessary for heat venting. or would the temps stay good enough with just 1 exit vent. 6in inline fan and carbon filter?
also about the carbon filter.. how big works well and what is necessary for my set up
thanks mlkdud
An air cooled hood isnt an absolute with a 400w.
the answer to your temp question will vary depending on the temperature of the fresh incoming air and when you run the lights.
Ideally "lights on" temps should not rise above 80f and "lights off" temps should not go below 65f.
I ran a 400w hps in a DIY hood, then a DIY cool tube then bought a 6" air cooled hood to try controlling temps when the summer heat started coming on. I then switched my "lights on" to night time (7pm-7am). Temps immediately were more controllable. This is in a 4x4x6'7 tent.
As for the carbon filter I cant say. Id imagine it depends on how stinky your strain/s is/are. I built my own using a generic carbon filter for a household filtering system from Home Depot. For something like $12.97 a filter it cant be beat for me.
Id recommend checking out craploads of DIY projects to gain fresh ideas if/when they arise.
Hopefully Ive helped.
