Gravel in the bottom?

I live in southern US and we have a rainy season starting around July. So I was wondering if putting round rocks or gravel at the bottom of the pit I dig for my plants if it would be helpful with drainage. Im going to use 10 gallon containers and I have already dug the holes. So I was gonna put the gravel in the bottom and then put the containers(with numerous holes drilled in it)on top of the gravel. Then filling in the space around the containers. Im going to have the rim about 2 inches above the ground. And then cover around the area for camo in case of possible fly overs.

Or a shit load of pearlite. The gravel will work.

It actually depends on the subsoil...
If it is high in clay or silty clay, then it won't drain as quickly as porous sandstone or sand..
Are you holes dug into alluvium? or weathered bedrock??

im going with gravel in my holes but im going to the river to git mine. the river has already cleand the rock for me.
