How can I, a resident of a non-MMJ state, get medical marijuana? I am in college and have severe mental disorders. I do have a life long history of medical documentations that can back this up. How can I get MMJ?

I have considered moving but I dont know if I would move I dont know if I could get medical marijuana .... buying seed over seas and growin is a good idea

You can, hypothetically, obtain a medical cannabis recommendation and use that recommendation to avoid prosecution or minimize charges in a court of law.
Allow me to quickly explain;
We are a Cannabis law reform group in Arizona, a state which continues to prosecute sick patients for using medicinal marijuana responsibly. However, our friends in California have been enjoying protection from prosecution since 1996.
A member of our group uses medical cannabis to treat severe pain and insomnia. He is a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, and is a hard working businessman.
He was pulled over while driving on the interstate. The police searched his vehicle and found marijuana and a pipe. He informed the officer that he was using it the marijuana as medicine, to which the officer laughed and proceeded to make the arrest.
The charges? Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia, both Class 6 Felonies.
We immediately took him to California to see a doctor who provided him with a written recommendation to use cannabis as medicine.
In Arizona, 1st time possession offenders are automatically given the opportunity to receive probation, complete drug classes and submit to random urine tests for a period of (1) One Year.
However, it simply isn't possible for him to submit a "clean" drug test, if the State of Arizona says that Marijuana is an illegal drug, and not medicine. Therefore the State of Arizona wouldn't ideally allow him to abide by the provisions of Prop. 200 and not become a felon.
Honestly, the State of Arizona has little interest in prosecuting you when a registered physician and the State of California are standing in your corner, ready to testify.
Ultimately, the State of Arizona was forced to recognize the medical marijuana recommendation from California.
Subsequently, the charge of Possession was dropped entirely and he was ultimately charged with ATTEMPTED Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
A small fine. No probation, no drug classes, no random urine tests, no loss of student aid, no lost job.
It goes to show that under "some circumstances", you can in fact rely on the compassion of other states when the time comes to defend yourself in a court of law.

How can I get a written recommendation for cannabis? I have documented ADHD, would this constitute a recommendation for medical cannabis? I understand that I would not be fully protected by law to use or posses cannabis but I am willing to take the effort and cost of getting a recomendation if it would help me out.

Perhaps you live next door to a state that has medical marijuana laws that protect patients? In our case, Arizona and California are right next to each other. It's as simple as 5 hour drive and making an appointment to see a doctor. You'll need to bring your medical paperwork documenting your illness and of course the annual fee.
You absolutely can obtain a recommendation for documented ADHD! Again, it would be important though that a psychiatrist or similar doctor has provided you with a written diagnosis, saying that you have ADHD. Then take your written diagnosis to the medical cannabis clinic and the doctor will acknowledge, "you have adhd. Medical Marijuana can be used effectively to treat your condition."
Medical marijuana can actually be used for a wide variety of conditions. Just a few for example:
AIDS (HIV) & AIDS Wasting
Alzheimer's Disease
Appetite / Nausea
Arthritis
Asthma / Breathing Disorders
Chemotherapy
Crohn's / Gastrointestinal Disorders
Epilepsy / Seizures
Glaucoma

As you mentioned, you might or might not be fully protected under the law. As with any court case, your fate is ultimately decided by a judge and based on the specific circumstances of your case. That being said, I would totally use a medical defense for a small possession charge, and I probably wouldn't use a medical defense on charges of intent to distribute or possession of a large amount.

me and my wife are currently researching moving to mendocino,CA for just this reason. we have to wait for her to finish school (over a year). i have a history of migraines well documented by my physicians records. mj is the only thing that has always seemed to work for pain relief. should be a shoe in for physicians document and mmj card. i'll be allowed to grow 12 plants, 6 for me and 6 for my wife as my primary caregiver. no more than 8 ounces dry. every county inCA has different regs on how much you can grow/possess. already planning grow room

yea im actually looking into this myself its illegal as f*ck here and for several states in each direction but it helps me out i got ADD ADHD ODD OCD and im an asthmatic and my ankles give me alot of trouble with pain...all been looked into by doctors and WELL documented so i should be able to have my doc ok it

I was thinking about going to colorado and visiting a doctor for a day and then coming back home... i know my state laws are against marijuana but i prob wouldnt go to jail for as long if i had a referal to use marijuana

Im planing on calling some medical marijuana doctors or dispensaries and asking a ton of questions on how i can be accepted into the group... i know i got enough disabilities to get the stuff... adhd (tons of mental shit), psychosis, i got fucked up legs... it looks like im drunk when im walking lol

For anyone that can afford it, take a quick vacation to Los Angeles and head down to Venice Beach. Walk the boardwalk and you'll see a medical MJ doctor's office. Walk in...talk to the doc...walk out with your rec.

i just called a clinic up in California and they said that they gotta verify that im a resident of cali and take a picture of my cali ID..... 
EDIT: I called a different clinic and they said that I must live in cali.. but not for a specific length of time.. and that my ADHD does not constitute a recommendation for medical marijuana and that i should have a psychological problem to constituent medical marijuana... that adhd is a psychological problem and that they dont treat that
These two places that I called where in cali.. i havent yet called any other states

I'm very glad that you brought this up! This is actually an issue that many people in my group have faced.
Like every problem though, theres a solution. In this case, many solutions for you to pick from.
1) Whilst vacationing in beautiful California, take an hour to go down to the California DMV. You'll need your home-state ID, your birth certificate and/or social security card. You'll need to fill out their form and input a California mailing address. Don't have any friends in California? Thats ok! Fedex/Kinkos and/or the UPS store offer a service for you! For roughly $50/year, they will rent you a "mailing address". You receive an actual address (not a P.O. Box) and congratulations you now have a "business" mailing address. Do you need to "prove" this address? Nope! The State of California verifys your address is valid by sending your ID in the mail to that address. If you put an invalid address, your not getting your ID.
Now, you'll be waiting for a month or so for that ID to arrive. But how do they expect you to identify yourself if required to do so by law? When your at the DMV applying for your ID, they will issue you a Positive Identification Verification paper. This is a printed out piece of paper that says the State has verified that you are who you say you are. Basically, this is your new ID until your real ID arrives in the mail.
We have had success with a few of our members who have gone this route. Walk into the clinic with your "temp ID" and your medical documentation.
2) Your other option is far more simple and for more expensive. Allow me to quickly explain.. There are hundreds of medical marijuana clinic doctors throughtout California. Just like every other business, when you see lots of competition that means that people will be competing for your business by offering you the "lower price". Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.
You will find doctors who will provide your recommendation for as little as $80, and you'll find doctors that will charge you $245. My doctor, charges me $245. Why would I pay $245 when I could pay $80 and get the same piece of paper?
My close friend currently has a medical recommendation from a "discount" clinic, and he paid $95. Currently, his doctor is now under investigation and had to close down. He is still technically registered, but his recommendation can't be verified. Every dispensary you go to will verify by phone that your recommendation is valid. Therefore, he is only able to go to the dispensaries at which he has already been verified. Not to mention, this doctor required Valid California ID. (Even an expired California ID wasn't good enough for this doctor!)
Many of us pay the excessive price of $245 for our recommendations. Why? Well first of all, we all used Arizona ID and had no problems. We simply claim to be 50/50 residents or Snowbirds, as we call them here. Secondly, this doctor is actually a real doctor who happens to believe that marijuana is medicine. When it comes down to it, if he wants your $245 then you are accepted. With hundreds of different doctors doing this on a daily basis, if the expensive doctor doesnt take your money, someone else will. Believe me, they know that.
Most everyone I register always is nervous and usually ends up trying to say "nevermind". It's important to remember the last fact I gave you, and read into that. The doctor makes money handing out recommendations and he makes nothing when he doesn't. With that being said, go into this entirely-stressfree.
Even the "slightest" pain can be treated by medical marijuana. CBS news did an undercover story where they sent in a lady to get medical marijuana, and her complaint was pain from wearing her high-heels at work. Rather than recommend that she not wear high-heels, the doctor recommended marijuana. I know it seems like its going to be stressful, but thats because we're all used to the government calling us felons instead of patients.
