Seedling Sprout Question

Under normal circumstances I would place seeds into a germ tray, water, root, and transplant outside. However, this time around I only have 2 seeds to work with and I must grow inside. I germinated 1 seed in a paper towel/DVD (see attached) and planted into my grow medium (5g bucket, 80% Miracle Grow Potting soil, 20% Perlite). I have a single 23w 6500K CFL hanging over the medium. Medium was soaked in 1 gallon 7.5 pH water prior to planting the germinated seed (pH due to acidic MG soil) and water was allowed to runoff. Grow closet is at 75F / 40% RH.

It's been about 48 hours since the planting and still no sign of a sprouted seedling. How long does it usually take for a germinated seedling to sprout up from the soil? When should I scrap the medium and start over with the last remaining seed?

Its been several years since I grew anything so I appreciate the help.

Was it in direct light from the second you planted it in the soil? I usually try to keep em slightly shaded until I see it poke out of the soil and begin to unroll it's cotyledon. Does that make sense?

yea, its had a single 26w 6500K bulb about 2 inches from the medium from the minute it went into soil.

Wife's paper towels... So the question remains; how long does it typically take for a germinated seed to sprout out of the soil? In other words, at what point do I discard the existing medium and seed and try again?

bulja it could take a few days don't drown them with water just keep the soil from drying out completely....

Add together the normal paper towel germing time and the time it normally takes for a germed bean then planted in soil to pop through the surface of the soil and then add a couple days for the heck of it and that is roughly how long it should take the seed planted in the soil to pop through the surface of the soil.

You cannot expect the seed germed in the soil to both germ and break through the surface of the soil as fast as a seed in paper towels will just pop and grow a taproot so sit back and chill and things should be cool and the gang as long as it was a viable bean to begin with and you keep things as moist as a prom queen on her way to the Holiday Inn.

Hope ya picked up some good knowledge here. I personally prefer to use the peat pucks over the paper towel method, but, hell, I'm still expwerimentin w/my grows, so I aint even tryin to say my way is the best way.
BTW, fer all ya paper towel germers:
Make a 1 quart solution of :
pH'ed H2o
1/4 tsp Superthrive
1 tsp Vitamin B-1 (straight B-1, nothin w/B-1 "in it")
Using that solution, soak yer seeds in it fer 24 hrs. After 24 hrs, cgo ahead and thoroughly soak a paper towel in it. Press some of the water out of the towel between yer hands. Place a few seeds in between folds of towel, place towel between 2 plates (be sure bottom plate has a good curve down, a soup bowl would work perfect)so that they make a dome type structure, place plates on top of yer cable box. After a few hours check to see how the evaporation is goin. Once the towle is beggining to dry, pour a lil water from yer solution in to yer bottom plate. After that, ya chan mist the towels periodically, never allowing them to dry out. Change yer solution every 3-4 days.

As always, great info. As soon as I added heat into the equation (on top of a DVR) it sprouted.
