Possible Heat Problem Not Sure Opinions?

350 cubic foot room 1000w hps 1 inline fan 170cfm pulling through hood and exhausting, 1 bathroom vent fan probably 50 cfm pulling cool air in, struggles during day to keep temps below high 80s, suspect it hit 90s today, and humidity was around 15.

1 week old plants, started in RR plugs, moved to cfl for 3-4 days, then put them under a 1k hps about 3.5 feet over them the past 3 days.... Due to the temp I shut the hps off and put them back under cfls temp 75 humidity 50 now
they seem to look not so good tonight, havent shown major improvement while being under hps, seemed to be doing better when they were starting, under the cfls.

The medium is %100 perlite I had to use Miracle Gro Perlite which has some light nutes but flushed it prior to transplanting and they seemeed fine up until now

And water is RO water didn't PH it, but thought it would be ok

Any opinions or suggestestions appreciated!

Temps are definitly running way to high. I am guessing that the majority of the heat is comeing off the bulb and reflector. It sounds like your pulling warm room temps thru the reflector, not allowing it to run cool. Try pulling cool air from outside the gro space with the inline fan, and exhaust the grow space with the ceiling fan. If you have the ballast in there, get it out. If you still have heat issues, you'll need to upgrade the fans.

Also, keep the babys under the cfls for 2 or 3 weeks. let them get a little more established before you throw the big guns at them.

Get a proper PH meter. Once you start giving them nutes, you will start locking some of them out if you ph is to high or to low.

Why just 100% perlite?

honestly, I disagree with the post above me about intake fan etc..you dont want to have an intake fan and no exhaust fan.. Actually its MUCH MUCH MUCH better to have an exhaust fan and just a passive intake hole for intake air.. If you move air out with the fan, air will come in by iteslf. Make a hole in the top of your growbox and out the fan on the top pulling hot air out and make a hole for passive intake near the bottom of your box. get a cheap 10.00 fan to blow inside ur cab onto the canopy of your plants and the heat problem will be solved

Thats not what I said.

You want to get rid of the source of the problem. which is most likely the heat from the reflector. If your running a sealed reflector and you pull enough cool air thru it with your inline fan , then exhaust that warmed air out of the room, there should be minnimal heat left in the space. And like I mentioned. Use the other fan to exhaust the entire room. You don't need an intake fan. just a passive intake vent, which allows cool air to be pulled thru the grow space.

then u will need 2 exhausts and 2 filters etc.. by just running the exhaust through the reflector first and then out of the top of the box without running a duct from outside to the reflector for "cool air", you wil only need 1 exhaust and 1 filter.and a passive intake.intake fans are very rarely needed and in alot of cases do more harm than good

He allready has the two fans. all he has to do is take his vent fan, that he's now using as an intake. and make it an exhaust in the ceiling. Use the inline fan to cool the heat source. He wont need any more filters, since he's drawing in fresh air from outside the grow room, thru the sealed reflector and back out of the room
I just think it's a much more efficient way to get rid of the heat source.

so how is the hot air getting vented out of the cab then? and how is the ambient air getting exhausted from the cab? Unless im confused, your way either only has 1 vent hole ( for the tube ) and the intake isnt even going into the cab at all but straight into the reflector via a duct right? if so, what about the ambient air from the cab? It will need venting as it will get hot if it just stays in the cab w/ a cooltube or not.

The inline fan is pulling cool air from outside the cab, threw a hole in the bottom of the cab threw ducting, then threw the sealed reflector, then out the reflector to out side of the grow room. This fan is removeing the source (reflector bulb heat) of the problem.

The second fan (That he decribes as a bathroom vent fan) which should be mounted at the ceiling of the grow room, exhuasts the ambient air by pulling cool air From a passive air intake (no ducting) somewhere at the bottom of the cab. This is the fan thats creating the air circulation threw the grow space.

what pinspot is saying makes perfect sense. hes cooling the hood with a fan and venting outside the room and hes exhausting the room with the bathroom fan placed at the top of the grow room. he can also drill a hole at the bottom of grow room for passive intake air. i think the token white guy was confused.
