Need advice on whether or not to top

I have 6 pink kush and afghan kush cuttings which I put in the dirt 2 weeks ago and 3 pink kush seedlings that popped out around the same time. I plan on keeping the 4 healthiest looking plants and transplanting into 5 gallon buckets. I have to start flowering in 4 weeks to leave myself enough time to flower since I'm moving in mid May. I'm using a 600w hps and have an area of 6x5 feet. My question is, if I top the plants how long does it take before you can flower them? And is it even worth topping them? My last grow I didn't top and yeilded 8oz of dry bud from 4 plants grown in 3 gallon buckets.

keeep all until you sex then keep only females.

They need at least 2 weeks recovery before flowering. You can top or FIM them now and then turn them in four weeks time if you want. If you want to give them a bit more growth before flowering then you could add another light.

Have you got any pics of them?

The reason that that I'm only flowering 4 plants, is that I don't have enough room in my grow space for 9 plants in 5 gallon buckets, or even 6 plants in 5 gallon buckets.

I would also prefer bigger denser nuggets than a bunch of smaller ones.

Is topping going to make that big of difference vs. just letting them grow for 4 weeks? I don't really have any height issues..

Don't have any pics right know, I'll try to get some up soon

My biggest one is about 5.5 inches, I know I received very small clones, only about an inch when I received them. They are definitely not as big as the ones in your pics.

Again if height is not an issue, is topping still going to make that big of a difference in yield?

I woudnt top them because I dont think topping adds much more (if any) to your yield, FIMing is the way to go but in your case I dont think you should. You have the height to work with so you may aswell use it because you dont have much width to work with or time to make the most out of FIMing.

I would just leave them as they are and just trim them up as they start to become bushy. Also trim off all lower branches to about 1/3 of the way up the plant because they are basically just suckers.

I was always under the impression that topping and fiming, where done to plants to increase yeild....

When should I start trimming the lower branches, I'm guessing while they are still vegging. And what is the benefit of this?

FIMing increases the yield but I dont think much of topping although many others would disagree with me.

Trimming the lower 1/3 - 1/4 off the plant helps the main colas produce better. The lower branches are usually referred to as 'suckers' because they dont usually produce enough thick buds so they are just sucking up some of the nutrients.

I cant really say when you should start trimming them coz I dont know what they look like.
