What's the normal moisture level for soil supposed to be?

Did some searching and I can't find any info on it. Anyone know? I'm about 4 1/2 weeks into flowering and the bottom leaves on 1/4 of the plant are turning yellow and dying off... the new growth is nice & green... I think it might be overwatered so I went out and got a soil moisture meter but I don't know what the proper levels are....and is the soils pH going to be okay at around 5-7? Anyone?

on the moisture meter ... it should read about 3 (dry) before you water
PH meter doesnt really work.... but 6-7 is good

The leaves turning yellow is normal for flowering. What fertilizers are you using? And soil should be allowed to get dry. Than watered till water runs out of drain holes. I water every 3-5 days. Water when the soil is dry. I use the meter and when it says dry I water.

Next to help identify the issue you need to post some pics, and give us info like soil, nutes, ph of water?

You want ph between 6-7. I ph my water to 6.5 before I water.

Awesome, short and sweet.

can't post pics, plant's are sleeping...
no amendments have been added yet beyond molasses and a little Schultz ferts 10-15-10 ( not much, just enough until my guano gets here monday )
kind of starting late in the ferts though but.

but like I said, there is no other discoloration beyond the yellowing of the bottom leaves...or anything that would really need me waking the plants to take some pics. there's no rust spots or anything that would indicate burn. and the new growth around the buds is green as can be...so i'm thinking its either
A. Normal
B. Over watering
C. P Def.

i actually have a question regarding soil moisture. how do you tell the moisture level without a meter. the pot im using is 1000Ml so if i add 400Ml of water will that make my moisture level 40%?? happy growing to all and as always, stay smokey :leaf:

Without a meter just water it until you get a little run off, lift the pot and make a mental note of the weight. It will be much lighter when its dried out.

Another good method is to stick your finger in the soil. If the top few inches are dry give her some water.

I dont think your math question on the level makes any sense at all but I may just be high
