germination questions

just received my lowryder seeds in the mail. i plan on starting germination today and was wonder when using the "wet towel in zip lock bag" process how long should the tap root be before you plant in jiffy pellets? I've been reading in the cannabis bible and am not finding anything about it please give me your input. thanks.

I like to plant mine when it's about 1/4 inch long. I've waited until it was like an inch & had more problems.

I had just asked this in another thread and was told was it cracked they put it in right after. Something about if it got to long you could damage it when transferring it.

that's crazy as i was reading this i was imagining myself using a ruler. thanks for the input.

its all really preferance as well some peeps put em in dirt some in coco, or even perlite but like I said it its all preferance, I put mine in rapid rooters your using jiffy cubes its all preferance... I"m stressing this because there is no exact one right way its just what works well for you but if you stay close to some other peeps preferances than you might get it right... bla bla bla sorry I'm stoned

thanks for the input. i had to try both waiting till a 1/4 inch and planting as soon as they crack.

I've planted seeds that were so far along that the top leaves were almost poking out & they took just fine. (not that I recommend that) I had a few never poke thru & I blamed it on the root being too long.

I think basically it's just a lot easier to poke a little hole in your medium & pop in a seed with a short tail than try to poke a deep hole to push the root down into.

The mistake I made was waiting to plant seeds that had already opened while I waited for the others to open. The root grows really quickly & can get long before you know it.

I'll be putting some papaya seeds in a paper towel this afternoon! woohoo!

The length of the taproot doesn't pose a significant factor. Technically germinating is used to tell whether the bean will even sprout in the first place. Whatever you do, don't damage the taproot, so its safer to do it earlier than later.

I plant by beans when they taproot is about 1/4 of an inch but I have also sucessfully grown from beans that barely had the taproot exposed. Hope this helps.

thanks everyone. what about pre-soaking? straight water or use some superthrive and water?

I've always just used tap water on a paper towel with no pre-soak. I'm sure everyone has their own method for that one.

they already cracked in the pre-soak. only 24 hours in super-thrive
