Question About Lighting

Hey guys, I'm looking to grow a couple of plants in an unused room and I'm curious about what sort of light I'd need. I'm on a tight budget, so I'm looking to save as much money as possible, and still be able to properly support 1-3 plants .

I'd like to be able to use a light that can be used in a standard light socket so I can just hang it above the plants and raise/lower it to the plant's needs.

Obviously, I'll be using foil lining to maximize the light source, and ventilation/climate control will not be an issue.... I just need to know of a good cheap light that will be able to handle at least 2 plants....

Any and all help would be appreciated....

Standard light socket? That'd be CFL.

4' florescent shop lights are cheap, they cost about 10 bucks, if you use them you should get 1 warm and 1 cool bulb. you can keep them 2" from top of plants. Hps would be the best, 400w is good for a 4'x4' room

A little new to the lingo... I've been fortunate enough to live in a region with an incredible growing climate, but unfortunately, a game warden moved in very close to my old growing location, so it's put a bit of a hitch in my plans...

So Compact Fluorescent? Would you mind being a little more specific? I'm completely new to indoor growing, so what would be the most cost efficient light I could use, that could support 2 or 3 plants?

sorry, did'nt read your post properly, teatree is right, cfl is good for standard socket. i've been reading on here that uvb lights help to increase thc production, so you could add a reptile light to your setup

42 watt CFLs have fairly high efficiencies and are easily found at hardware stores for under $10. You'll need one of these every 14"(apart). They can cast good plant light over 7".

And a reflector/fixture? You want the bulbs behind shatterproof glass(fully enclosed with reflector). Just in case the bulb explodes. It's rare(unless you cause it to happen, which is easier if it's not enclosed) but the precaution is worth it, IMO.
