Which Strain?

Which strain should i buy? First time grow. I just solved my heat problem today. I have a 5x5x8 closet with a 4x4 tray centered in the space. I have a air cooled 1000w HPS. Due to lack of money the hps is what i am going to use for veg and flowering. I have a ebb flow system I am using hydroton as a medium. I can either do them in individual pots or fill the whole tray with the hydroton. Not sure what is best? I would think the individual pots so i could move them around the tray? Anyways you know my set up now, so which would be good strain for my first grow, a decent yield would be nice to pay off the cost of the room : ) I am a MJ patient in ca and have access to many different clones at the local clubs, so i will use clones. Thanks for litsening and for the help on my heat problem.

I'm a newb to MJ, but have been growing everything else for years and years.

I planted 6 bagseed and 2 bubblelicious; thinking I didn't have the chops right off to grow MJ. Well, everything grew.. and the Bubs were very strong, easy, never looked stressed in any way.. the others were fussy all along.. They're in their last 2-3 wks, full of bud.

Unfortch... both Bubs went male; got 4 out of 6 fems on the others.. but that's just odds, nothing else. Those Bub plants were b-ful and happy all the way.

If you are a medical patient then you should know what strains help with your particular condition so one of them, one that you feel works the best, is what you should grow, isn’t it?

If you have a medical condition and you will be growing your own medication asking other people what they think you should grow is not the best route to take. Even if you wanted the opinions others for what they believed would be best for you then you should mention your medical condition so possibly someone can pick the proper strain or strains for your condition.

It is not like one strain will be super easy to grow and another will be really hard to grow so first time or not you should not pick anything other than what will give you what you need the most. Sure you will likely make a mistake or two but you might as well learn on what you need the most instead of learning on something that someone else tells you to grow that will not help much if at all with your particular medical condition.

As for using a HPS for flowering and vegging maybe you can find a metal halide conversion bulb that will run off your HPS ballast and that way you can have both light spectrums for just the additional cost of a conversion bulb and not at the cost of a full second light setup.

Thanks for the input Brick Top. You answered my question on which strain. I do know which strains I purchase at the club, I just didnt know if some strains were more difficult to grow. I havnt been able to find that answer in my grow books I have been studying.

Good advice.. I was focused on what I had actual experience with, but yeah...

A lot seedbank sites do have "medical" sections, and usually comment on "easy-med-hard" for growing. I do think there is some differences among strains that, for experienced growers, are no biggee.

But, if this is going to be your first time growing MJ, I'd suggest getting something clearly described as easy. I've grown everything under the sun except MJ til recently and I can tell you, it definitely does have its own funny little quirks that you need to learn first-hand. You don't want to complicate that with a touchy strain, and there are some.

Just my 2 cents, being on the backside of my first grow..

You are welcome.

There are a few, but only a few, picky strains out there and most are not types that are used for medicinal purposes. You can run across a sativa now and then that can be a bit more twitchy and now and then one strain will be a really heavy feeder and then you grow something different and you have a terrible time with it because you do not know it is a light feeder and you did everything the same for it as you did the first. But those are fairly rare cases and usually once you get to know what your plants are telling you then you will listen to them and do what they tell you to do before you run into a major problem.

Pick a stain or two that works the best for your condition and learn on it or them and then grow it or them a few times and get any possible kinks in your setup worked out and get to know how to listen to plants and diagnose problems that any strain of plant can and will have at times and later if you want to experiment with some other strains then do it but for now start with and stick with what will help you the most.

That is the best advice I can give, that and possibly adding a conversion MH bulb to your lighting because vegging with a HPS, regardless of high wattage, can cause some stretching because your plants will not be receiving the type of light spectrum they want and need the most while in veg.

Good luck.

Oh .. if you need to find a place to buy beans use the link below and you will find a number of seedbanks to pick from.
