best controller for vortex fan

i been looken all over the net for info in what kind of fan spead controller i can use with my 10 in vortex (1000cfm)

i need to know if i can use an autoformer controller, like the kind used for ceiling fans with 3 settings,

i read that solid state fan controllers just make the fan hum loud and break early

so if anyone has used for has any info on useing autoformer fan controllers with a vortex fan, plz help me out

i havnt used one but contemplating on getting one when i get my inline fan. this would probly be what i would get. its called the speedster. you can buy them other places, this is just a site that i saved when i was looking.
