Aerogarden Starter Tray - How Many and How Long

Hey All,

A friend will be starting some autoflowering strains in an AeroGarden and will be using the 70 site Starter Tray. Seeds will sit in a shotglass of water for 24 hours and then placed into the stater tray.

24 seeds will be placed in the starter tray and HOPEFULLY left in the starter tray until plants show sex, females will then be transplanted into 2-3 gallon pots with FF Ocean Forest.

Here is the Starter Tray: http://www.aerogardenstore.com/promotion/index.php?promoName=catalog&pageName=product&viewProduct=0069-00Z

Question 1: Do you think that the 24 seedlings (if 100% germination) will be able to survive in the Aerogarden Starter Tray for 2-3 weeks until they show sex?

Question 2: If the answer to Question 1 is no would it be possible to prune the roots every week so they will survive until they show sex?

Question 3: Once they show sex what is the best way to transplant them into their final homes?

Question 4: Once seeds are in the Starter Tray when should the lights be turned on and how much light should they receive?

Thanks for all responses!

i dont see why not, just make sure you space them out enough, so you dont get any roots tangled, it will be crowed tho,

I don't know... Autos are fast growing strains and 2-3 weeks is almost half their grow time. If you keep 24 plants that close together and wait until they show sex you're probably gonna end up with a lot of males and a lot of roots getting tangled. Those males are just gonna pollinate your ladies unless you get them out pronto. Test it out, but I don't think it's worth it for the AG. It would definitely be great for an outdoor grow or a decent scale indoor, but not for just one AG. I may be wrong, though. Any other opinions?

It seems like some don't understand, the plan is this:

1. Put 25 seeds in AeroGarden Starter Tray
2. After 2-3 weeks (once sex is shown) pull out all males, then pull out all females and transplant into 2-3 gallon pots with FF Ocean Forest.

I will not be growing all of these plants from start to finish in the AeroGarden, just for the first few weeks.

Thanks for the answers, anyone else?

It depends on how long it takes to flower,

24 seeds for 2 weeks, I doubt there will be room.

Maybe 10 seeds for a little bit under 2 weeks, depending on when you germinate them.

SICC and Lurk are backin me up, bro. It may not seem like much from an "above ground" view, but the roots would get so tangled if you had 25 plants (autoflowering, nonetheless) growing within such a small space.

By the time they got to the flowering stage, most of the plants will have died due to low light and food because other plants will have dominated.

Try it with less seeds. They need to be decently spaced regardless. That tray is for germinating and transplanting. It wasn't designed for autoflowering plants 3 weeks in.

I've got 7 bagseed plants growing in an AG, not autoflower - and I'm just entering into week 5 of veg.

By week 3, the roots were already so entangled & matted together at the bottom of the tank that it became flat out impossible to separate them without some sort of damage.

This is my first grow, so I've got no clue if plants can generally recover from clipped roots - but I think if you're going to plant 25 at once, by week 3 you'll have no choice.

I've heard some mention putting their roots into a nylon sock to keep them from tangling. Maybe you could cut a couple up & experiment with something like that?
