Trimming fan leaves during flowering??

I'm 22 days into flowering. I have a ton of leaves that are hindering the light from reaching the lower flowers. Can I cut off these leaves??? If so, what is the effect on the plant??

Trim em! Trim the dead one's, leave healthy leaves. You will be fine, yer plant will thank ya!

Don't do it man, that's where your plants get the energy to make all those big beautiful buds! They also pull N and other trace nutes from them late into flowering, that's why you see them start to yellow and fall off. It needs those leave, so let them fall off when they're ready. Just tuck them under the buds and all will be good.

and the answer is...

leaves are the solar power generators of your plant, buds are the storage facilities. eliminate the first and the need for the second is less.

try this, cut off those lower shaded buds but leave the leaves. this forces the plant to send any energy collected by those shaded leaves(even shaded they are getting light) to the upper buds. the end result will be less airy lower buds and bigger, denser top buds.
