if there are no nutes in that soil I would say they are ready for some at very very low strength. also, watch out as that mulch you have will make your soil very acidic. add some fine dolomite lime to the top layer of soil to help buffer your ph

my bagged top soil has a p.h of 6.5 but when i watered them with nutes(1/2 strength) the p.h. of the moist soil measured about 6.3(1hr after watering) the water used had a p.h of 7.8 and the nutes had an n.p.k. of 24-8-16.
basically i dont understand why the moist soil should be low on p.h instead of high when the water p.h was 7.8 and the bare soil was 6.5???????.
the top soil is mixed with perlite(60%soil 40%perlite).
the lower leaves are turning yellow and curling up i think its a nitro defficiency but the plants are only 16 days old and i did not give any nutes for the first 2 weeks then started of at 1/3 strength and now 1/2 strength??.
any suggestions/answers or advice would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS.

woah dude, there is a general rule of thumb of no nutes until 3rd or 4th node and/or 3rd week of life. they are overfert with those ratios of NPK

they now have 6 nodes and node 7 is starting to open.
they grew increadibly fast as i started them from seed under a 400w h.p.s.
GROWLUX BULB.
they are also very bushy with about 7mm between the nodes?????.
i know you should not nute for 3 weeks but due to growth i started a week early(1/3 strength).
i transplanted them last night and watered them today with about 1/4 strength feed to be on the safe side.from what i am reading it suggests i have a nitro defficiency but if i had over done it then i would expect to see dark green leaves instead of yellow?????.
what npk values do you recommend.
THANKS.

my ph meter is showing the soil to be more alkaline(i have provided the pic of my meter)
i have also provided more pics.

the top 1 look like death the leafs are starting to go hard and have brown spots on it,the new leafs on all 3 are yellow some of the leafs look like there curling down but im not sure if thats cos there only 2 weeks old, there is no perlite in the soil just canna coco soil.
does that help you help me lol

thanks

best thing to do is buy a water only ph test kit from a pet/fish shop and test the ph of the water you are using first then test it again when you have mixed your nutes with your water(the test kit is good for 30-50 individual tests).you want to be adding feed/water with a ph of about 6.5 if at the moment it is a bit alkaline and test again in a couple of days.
if you cant resolve it this way you can either buy a bottle of ph down liquid to play with untill you get it right.always adjust the ph gradually as a major fluctuation can lock out other vital minerals and nutes causing plant disease.
another remedy for adjusting the ph is by using baking soda to raise the ph and vinegar to lower the ph mixed with your water/feed.
you eventually want your soil ph to be between 6.5-7.2.

hope this helps.

gotcha. first nuting time for a seedling can be very tricky. got to keep in mind that 1/3rd strength of those npk's is really like full strength with NPK's range of normal of 5-2-2 or something like that for veg. ur generally right about the dark green and yellow leaves, just that too much can also lockout nutes and you can experience the same deficiency. if they green up than you know it is working and u r ok. if they continue to yellow with those nutes, than more likely they have too much.

the first leaves, the cotyledons, are the seedlings primary reserve nute source for first weeks of growth. chances are if they are yellowed and drained, than some light feeding would be in order. and those moisture meters are known to be very ver unreliable, especially for ph.

they are green(exept lower leaves) and i now think the lower leaves have served their purpose and are dying due to rapid new growth and constant new shoots growing.
see what you think in the pics(16 days after sprouting).
i am quite confident my nuting/watering is correct.
