how long do you veg your plants?

I'm at six and a half weeks/ 2 white widows a thai skunk and a g13. Thai is going to flower damned near 80 days according to the seed co. I ordered from. The rest is good for 40 to 65 days but no mention of what is the best veg'ing time.

4 6 week old plants 2 are being lst 'd, the other two are more squat and indica in nature so they are left to be as is, behind this are three three week old white widows and four clones freshly cut. 36 k lumen cfl grow.

2 months at least. A lot of people, especially cfl growers veg too soon. Time is actually less important, the main thing is height. Once a plant is 18-20 inches, you can start vegging to produce large amounts of bud. Anything less and you're limiting your crop potential

I like 2 months, seems to work good for me, unless the plant is going to be too tall in flower, Sometimes you have to take other things into consideration. 2 months usually gives the plant time to be sturdy and bushy, just the right amount of time before flowering.

The plants in the pictures want about another 2 week i normaly go for around 1/2 foot but it all depends on the growroom height and width.The plant look realy good nice tight internodes that is what i like to see i think most of this site has got the message the closer the lights the close the internodes the more bud the plant will yeiled.Lookig good you can flowr when ever you want realy has long has the plant has legs,but the smallest that i would bud is 1 ft then the plant will normaly end up been around 3 ft by the time the plant has finished.In the first 3 week of flowering the plant will shoot up then after this they seem to lul at this height but do what ever you have been doing just do it for about another 3/4 week. The longer the plants can be left to veg the bigger the yeiled that is why i like to get my plants in nice and early [GURILLA STYLE]This means the plant have a longer time to veg thous giveing me at least a pound a plant.That is what i got last year the biggest was 16ft and gave me justunder 2 pound the strain arjons ultra haze#1.But this year i put some of the same in but i'm gonna do a few white rhino this is the baller weed top stuff full of t.h.c and a real head and legs high no wonder medi users love the stuff.And to top my out door garden off a few trainwrek.So mother nature please be nice to me this year last year i was haveing to visit the plants after every rain fall to stop bud rot by shakeing the stems or should i say trunks.But i was lucky only 1 plant had a little mould so i cut out the worste of it and made some bubble hash [NICE]]

Forgot to add, you should at least wait until you have alternating nodes to make sure your plant is mature and ready to flower. Usually the plant is in good shape by then and after that it's up to you how much longer you wish to wait, alternating nodes is a good way to judge things.

I thought the alternating nodes thing only occurs onces the plants have been flipped.

I base my vegging entirely by height, cause when you've got a 400W hps you can't grow very tall plants. I try to keep my plants under 2-2.25 feet - although I have some G13 haze that is not cooperating with me at the moment.

Alternating nodes is the one sign you can go by that the plant is mature. I've never used HPS to veg so I don't know what effect it has on the plant but under flourescent it isn't a problem.

I think some people also say if you have 6 nodes or more you are good to go if you'd rather use that to go by.

i went with a bagseed, let it sprout veg for a week then into flowering since every thing was going into flowering to. its a girl and growing in coco in my sig

+1 Its what I do, seems to work fine...this time I've vegged them for 6 weeks instead of 8 and a half or whatever - but I'm hoping to definately have it ready by Glastonbury...10 weeks flowering, flush, then have it dried in time and cured a bit (they always seem to be dry as hell when I jar them up with no moisture left so I'm probably gonna be ok...)

damned I d love to grow outside with that kind of result.looovvee to..my grow room is almost five foot tall so it should be just enough though i will raise it if need be...thanks for the help and inspiration!

thank you for that. yeah with the cfl's its real new territory for me, going slow and steady on this grow I don't want to rush anything...I did put one kc33 I had outside just a runt in a 1/2 gallon container. It started flowering last week and man it smells so devine....and thats one i generally just let fend for it's self...the one in the grow room is lst and f standing straight would push 2 1/2 feet...damned it wil smell good in there next month..lol anyways I doubt that little kc33 when cut and dry would offer up more than an 8th but no worries I love em all.

What do you mean by alternating nodes??? New grower just trying to get some info. Thanks

correctly vegged plants are mature when Phyllotaxis noding is present.
every sprout/seedling starts with alternating nodes.
(vegg untill you plants are sexually mature and showing pre flowers before flowering them).
growing good you should be able to make your plants sexually mature in 4 weeks as i did(2 weeks 24/0 and 2 weeks 18/6)and they are 14" tall and preflowering.
GENETICS AND SEX IN CANNABIS.
Sex is an inherited trait in Cannabis, and can be explained in much the same terms as human sexuality can. Like a human being, Cannabis is a diploid organism: its chromosomes come in pairs. Chromosomes are microscopic structures within the cells on which the genes are aligned. Cannabis has 10 pairs of chromosomes (n=10), for a total of 20 chromosomes (2m=20).
One pair of chromosomes carries the primary genes that determine sex. These chromosomes are labelled either X or Y. Male plants have an XY pair of sex chromosomes. Females have XX. Each parent contribute one set of 10 chromosomes, which includes one sex chromosome, to the embryo. The sex chromosome carried by the female ovule can only be X. The one carried by pollen of the male plant may be either X or Y. From the pollen, the embryo has a 50/50 chance of receiving an X, likewise for Y; hance, male and female progeny appear in equal numbers (in humans, the sperm carries either an X or a Y chromosome.)
Flowering
Male Plant Under natural light, males usually start to flower from one to four weeks before the females. Where the photoperiod is artificially controlled, as with electric lights, males respond quickly (in about a week) to a change to short photoperiods and usually show flowers sooner than the females.
Male flowers develop quickly, in about one to two weeks on a vigorous plant, not uniformly. Scattered flowers may open a week or more before and after the general flowering, extending the flowering stage to about four weeks.
The flowering stage continues to demonstrate the male's tall, relatively sparse growth. Most of the flowers develop near the top of the plant, well above the shorter females. The immature flower buds first appear at the tips of the main stem and branches. Then tiny branches sprout from the leaf axils, bearing smaller clusters of flowers. The immature male flowers are closed, usually green, and develop in tight clusters of knob-like buds. The main parts of the male flowers are five petal-like sepals which enclose the sexual organs. As each flower matures, the sepals open in a radiating pattern to reveal five pendulous anthers (stamens).
Inside the ovoid, sac-shaped anthers, pollen grains develop. Initially, pollen sifts through two pores near the top of the anther; then, starting from the pores, longitudinal slits slowly open (zipperlike) over the course of a day, releasing pollen to the wind. Once a flower sheds pollen, it shortly dies and falls from the plant. Normally, male plants begin to die one to two weeks after the bulk of their flowers have shed pollen. Female Plant
The female plant generally starts to flower later than the male, under either natural light or an artificially controlled photoperiod. Female marijuana plants flower when the average daily photoperiod is less then about 12 to 13 hours. However, some varieties and individuals may flower with a photoperiod of over 14 hours. Some Colombian varieties may not respond until the photoperiod falls below 12 hours for a period of up to three weeks.
The duration of flowering also depends on the particular rhythm of the variety, as well as growing conditions, and whether or not the plant is pollinated. Within these variables, females maintain vigorous growth and continue to rapidly form flowers for a period that ranges from 10 days to about eight weeks.
Females generally do not grow much taller during flowering. Growth emphasises a "filling out," as flower clusters develop from each leaf axil and growing tip. Normally, the flowers arise in pairs, but the pairs form tight cluster of 10 to over 100 individual flowers that are interspersed with small leaves. These clusters are the "buds" of commercial marijuana. Along the top of the main stem and vigorous branches, "buds" may form so thickly that the last foot or more of stem is completely covered. Usually the leaves that accompany the flowers tend toward simpler structure, until each leaf has one to three blades.
The visible parts of the female flower are two upraised stigmas, one-quarter to one-half inch long, usually white or cream, sometimes tinged with red, that protrude from a tiny, green, pod-shaped structure called the floral bract. This consists of modified leaves (bracts and bracteoles) which envelop the ovule or potential seed. The mature bract is a tiny structure, about 1/8 inch across and 1/4 inch long. When fertilised, a single seed begins to develop within the bract, which then swells until it is split by the mature seed.
Bracts are covered more densely with large resin glands than is any other part of the plant, and are the most potent part of the harvest. Resin glands may also be seen on the small leaves that are interspersed among the flowers.
The differences between male and female Cannabis become more apparent as the plants mature. The same can be said of the differences between varieties. Often, two varieties may appear to be similar, until they actually flowers and fill out to different forms. These appear in many ways: some varieties maintain opposite phyllotaxy with long internodes throughout flowering; bud sizes vary from about one-half inch to about three inches, with a norm of about one to two inches; buds may be tightly arranged along the stem, yielding a "cola" two feet long and four inches thick; and some varieties only form buds along their main stem and branch tips, with a few "buds" forming along the branches.

if its a seed at least 4 weeks....clones, in my ebb and flow 1 week. in my room 2-3 weeks or 18" whatever comes first...

I normally flower after about a month old, or 12 inches tall. Most people here are saying 2 months, but I have great results with just 1 month vegg time. Ive seen people with great results flowering from seed.
If you want more, bigger buds, obviously you should vegg a bit longer.
