Okay smarty pants...but I think you are thinking of powdery mildew, not mold.that's not salt it's a type of mold
Zoink, so salts can build up over time and waterings. It can come from the soil and from feedings. If the water you are using has a high alkiline or chlorine content it may be what is sitting on the top. I doubt that you have a powdery mildew problem. You can test it by touching it and then rubbing your fingers together to test texture. If it is sort of silky feeling it's mildew. If it is sort of gritty feeling, then it is a sort of salts or alkiline. Hope this helps. Either way this is probably what is causing the plant issue. Good luck
