Cloning question for the pros'

I am a little over 1 weeks since taking clone cuttings. I took 4 cuttings from each strain and place them into a 4 in rockwool. 4 cuttings share 1 4in rock wool. My question is this:

How do I know when the cuttings have rooted enough to transplant them into their own seperate cubes? I know that they have all rooted becuase a few of them have rooted above the rockwool. Should I wait till the roots get to the bottom of the rockwool till I cut them out and transplant them?

im not really a pro but I have taken a fair amount of cuts in my day.

I dont consider my cuts rooted untill the roots are poking out the bottom, but that is really just a safe guard. they could be rooted but not have roots popping out the bottom but they should be left to root longer. They are just guarenteed to be rooted if you see the roots comming out the bottom,

plants are delicate but not to the point you cant touch em.

if you take strong cuts, you can mess with the cuts but not too much,. Like, I will be wondering if the cut is rooted so you can tug on it slightly and 'feel' the resistance and see if it is rooted, sometimes you can pull the cut out and see the roots forming.

I wouldn;t say that is the best way to tell you clones are rooted, but I would recommend doing it just for the fact that you become more familiar with the plant and how it acts ya know.

It is all a process, it would be a lot easier if the plants could talk back to you and tell you what would be best at any time, but, they cant, so being a good grower means being comfortable with a plants needs and knowing what they expect. haha you can see how it becomes a love affiar after a while.

The best way to get your clones to grow and to know when they have rooted is to get a cloning machine. The clones are inserted into neoprene plugs and the machine works like a dishwasher, it's constantly spraying nutrient onto where roots will form.

Another method you can try is by getting some 1 inch rockwool cubes. Take a razor blade and cut from top to bottom until you reach the middle of the cube, don't cut it all the way in half. You want to cut the cube so you can open and close the cube.
Take your cutting and put some rooting hormone juice on it, then simply open up the cube put your cutting in there and close it back up. To securely close it, you can wrap up the cube with a rubber band.
After a week you can check on it by unwrapping the rubber band and opening the cube. Once it's rooted, insert the cube into a bigger cube that already has a hole punched out of it.

I think you should separate the plants now. Next time you should get 1 inch cubes and use those to start the clones. If you wait to separate the plants some roots could be growing across the cube so when you cut it to separate them you will most likely damage the roots. Odds are this wouldn't do to much harm but it would be safer to separate them now then wait till you some roots popping out and then put them in there own larger cubes.

This is what I imagined too mj, but the guy who is walking us thru this is making us stick to 'his way'. I know I don't have too if I don't want, but this guy convinced my dad that all info I get off internet forums are losers and don't have anyone else to talk to and are pretty much newbs.

I now know this is not true. Most everyone here truely is a good pot gardener. Thanks for the posts guys. +rep.
