Need help with lighting!!!

i just bought a new 150 watt hps light and im new to indoor growing and it didnt work when i screwed it in my lamp, i was wondering if i needed a lamp thats made for hps lights?

Haha i tried that a while back when i didn't know much except mine was one of those large fluorex fluorescent 100 watters from homedepot.

Yea man hps lights need a ballast to regulate current to the bulb, an ignitor for obvious reasons, and the special ceramic socket. There are a bunch of diy tutorials on how to convert a 150w hps flood/security light into a remote ballasted grow light if you do a quick search on google using some of those keywords. You don't really have to have any specific knowledge of electricity as long as you follow the tutorials carefully, you have to be good with your hands though.

You can pick up those security lights at your local hardware store for pretty cheap but i got mine from here.
