Calyx's are breaking open

Hi all -

Getting ready to harvest. . . I think but I have a question.

My trich's don't really look amber, just cloudy, but the calyx's are getting so big they're bursting open. Is that normal? Here are a few pics. They aren't very clear but you can see the open calyx in some areas.

Does that mean I need to harvest?

Ok, cool.

I've read that if the pistils are looking dead then it is too late to harvest, like you lost all the good stuff or something. Is that true?

Mine aren't dead but some of them are looking brown and kind of thirsty.

thats not true at all it goes by the trich color like u said earlier. looks like u have at least a month of flowering left if you want sum weight on those buds. then on top of that 4 weeks of drying/curing. go buy a nice big bag of dope and be patient my friend. do u use soil? if so then start adding molasses to ur water. 1tbs per gallon. that will give you some dense sticky ass buds. good luck bro.

Wow none of you guys noticed that the buds are seeded, thats also why the hairs turned orange so early.

That sucks man figure out where the male is or the plant must be a hermie.

You look like you got a couple weeks regardless

Yea, means you got a hermie. Or a seeded female. You may get some bud off of it but don't keep it around if you have any other females around. It will polinate them and you will loose all your bud.

So you're saying if it gets seeded it's ruined? I've smoked seedy weed before and got a nice high off of it.

Actually I seeded it purposely because I want some seeds for later grows and I can't keep a mother around because of house guests, etc. coming in.

I have another question though. I've got a male plant and I've chopped it down a bit because I didn't want it to take up room from my seedy female, but now he's got hairs growing out of the top of him. Is that normal or did he hermie out? Can a male hermie out too?

He ain't gonna grow any bud for ya. I think it's kind of like grandpa, with his hairs that grow in his ears...

y would u lie to the same people ur trying to get advice from? ur main question was why are my calyx breaking open. if you seeded it on purpose bro you would have known fukn seeds were coming. why dont you just say thanx to the people helping you instead of arguing with them saying you seeded her on purpose. LIES....ALL LIES!!! -rep for u man

I never lied. This is my first time growing so I wasn't sure how they're supposed to look. Stop being so defensive about everything. I was just asking for advice because I've never done it.

Gee. . . I never said anything about having seeded the plant or not until someone said something about it. That's when I realized that the seeds come out of the calyx's.

I appologize if you thought I was trying to trick someone.

Go smoke a doobie and RELAX!

I never lied about anything. I just wanted to know why the calyxs were fat and breaking open. I didn't know that the seeds came out of there.

Forgive me for being a first time grower! Everyone has to have a "first" time.

It's all good, don't worry about all the angry hate posts we all start somewhere. Your calyxes should swell toward the end of flowering even on a normal sensi grow, but I always give them a little squeeze if I suspect it to be seeded. If you seeded on purpose, chances are your buds are slammed full of seeds and busting out of their calyxes. It's best to just try to pollinate like one or a few nugs just so that the whole plant doesn't become a womb for new seeds.

Thanks man. I can still smoke it though, right? I've smoke seedy weed before but I picked out all the seeds. It's not going to make it a weak bud will it?

Some say that once it's pollinated most of the energy goes into seed production as opposed to THC production. This is all theory, but I'd say it's probably not going to be as potent as it could have been. I've smoked some train wreck full of seeds that was still almost as fire as train wreck with no seeds, but I think it was pollinated later in flowering. But if you are growing crappy genetics don't expect major potency. :blsmoke:
