And going back through all of the old California police code archived - no, 420 was NOT a police code for pot. It's the Penal code for obstructing entry on public land.

4:20 originated from a bunch of high school/college students from California who chose that designated time as the actual meetup time to smoke pot, and as the codeword for pot. The date itself just got chosen later on. Real Earth day is April 22nd, so anyone telling you Earth Day is April 20th is full of it.
