Quick HPS Question (kinda important)

I just got my first 150w HPS light, and I'm wondering how far it should hang from the ceiling to avoid over heating?

It should be a foot from my plants, right? (is a little more OK, like, 1.5 feet?)

I didn't realize my kit didn't come with chains to hang it on...I'll have to get some later. Right now, its hanging on some hooks (but they are doing OK holding it up, no worries.)

So its pretty close...I dunno, 5 inches from the top? Is that gonna be a fire hazard?

They only have an hour left to go with the new light anyway.

all depends on your ventilation and cabinet size. get a thermometer and do some research about varying temps in your cabinet. if you cant afford one, hold your hand under the light and see how hot it gets. if its hot, move the lights. its not rocket science..

Its not under the light thats the problem. Its OVER them, on the ceiling.

I'm working on some ventilation now (didn't need it really with the CFL's), trying to figure out what to do.

I have a 2x2 cabinet, about 3 or 4 feet tall.

as long as there is good air circulation between the hood/fixture and the ceiling, you will be just fine. best not to go closer than 5" to the ceiling with a hood, or 7" without a hood. Hope that helps.

i had same set up, just upgraded.

the plants are gonna be all up on it. you have to LST your plants in a small space to get bigger yields. just bend them over with fishingstring, within hours the turn up and keep growing.
i can get like 3 inches away with my 150w hps, if its too hot for your hand, its too hot for the plant
