depends on how many watts your light is
what the hell does light wattage have to do with plant maturity?

they say when a plant has atleast 4 sets of fully developed leaves you can start.

but in my experience thats not all breeds. some wont bloom till their ready.:hump:

they are working on at least thier 6th node. What would be the first set of developed leaves? first with 5 or 7?

I have a 400 watt MH. Want to get HPS once able.
I'd go ahead then as you have a lot of plants so you'll have to raise your a light more to cover them all reducing your penetration depth. The handful of runts I'd put under florescent for at least a couple of more weeks. BTW what color is your MH light, 6500 K, 5500 K, 4100 K

I won't be able to get them much taller than 4 or 4-1/2 ft. Before I'll be to close to the light at it's highest piont.
What do you think the down falls of using this light would be?

I don't know what color my light is. Unfortunately it's not a grow light, it is a shop light.
if it's a shop light it's 4100 K (or thereabouts) a very poor grow light but it works. A 6500 K bulb will give you lush deep green growth that side branches quickly. https://www.rollitup.org/attachments/cfl-growing/240662d1226605588-5000k-vs-6500k-hortgraph2.gif

Here's a sample of a 6500 K bulb

You can achieve equal results but on a smaller scale with 6500 K (Daylight) compact florescent lights.

The reasons for the shop light is my budget.

After this 1st grow I was hoping to get a HPS grow light. I was thinking on using the MH to veg.

My grow room is still coming together with many ideas still festering in my head. My room is about 7' X 7' with a 7 ft ceiling. I want to divide it to have a veg and a flower area.

They need to be about 6 nodes to be mature. Indica's take a little longer to mature than Sativa's which mature faster but of course take longer to flower. If they are pure or mostly Indica I would let them grow a little longer and flower 4 at a time (ratio 100watts per plant) and put the others in a closet with 1 42w CFl or 2x20w CFL per plant about 4 inches from top of each. Then flower the the next set. Let the Indica's get bigger and you will get more harvest (plant size to yield ratio). If you end up with different size plants put them on blocks of wood or other upside down pots to keep an even canopy about 18 inches from the light with a fan circulating air in between. Thats my formula hope it's helpful.
Looking really nice.

They are bagseeds so strain is questinable. Most have said they look mostly indica. Do you think (4)-4 ft. 40 watt tubes would work as well as the CFL's?
