I have a TDS-3 i bought off of e-bay.It measured solids and temp,it was around $20.00.
You use it to tell what your nutes levels are in your water.I would also get a ph meter,they are simpler to use than strips.

i use a truncheoun meter they take triple A batteries and dont need calibrated ...about 120 dollars tho ....easy to read and completly waterproof
