How Much Soil?

the area im planning on planting my plants next year has horrible soil. Im planning on buying a ton of potting soil and digging a hole for each plant, then filling it with the soil. But my problem is i dont know how much to use for each plant. The average bag is aobut $4 and 1cu foot of soil. Is 1cu foot or soil enough for the roots to grow?

dude, just go bye some 5 gallon grow bags and plant them in the soil, and heres a good soil to make, 60% poting soil, 15% perlite, 15% bildingsand, 5% wormcastings, 5% npk pre-mix (batgwono).

Like wise guy said around 5 gallons each. The bag idea is pretty good. Or dig holes and place pots in there also. It might help if you need to move them for any reasons.

Definatly at least 5 gallons worth. If you can get 5 gallon buckets for cheap/free somewhere they work great and are easy to relocate if nessicary. A lot of resturants and construction supplys come in these buckets and are thrown away every day so you can usualy get them for FREE.

If you bury the buckets dont forget drainage holes and a little gravel or sand beneth them to help drainage.

ya i agree, if you can swoop up some 5 gallon buckets, that would be best. Grow bags are more of a one time thing. Anyways like 420`GUY said you do need alot of holes in the bottom, and perlite is one more that offers good drainage for the bottom two inches.

Yup, can't go wrong with 5 gal. buckets.

I maybe new in posting to the site, but I am not new in growing whatsoever. True, I failed to notice the age of the thread, but if I needed any advice on how to grow then I would ask anyone else but you! There is not a damn thing you can teach me! As soon as I'm capable I will start my own grow journal, and just for spite I will do it in 5 gal. buckets at the wrong time of year and send you packin' back to the group you "watch" grow so they can laugh at your ass, too.

Wasn't really pertaining to you except you drummed up a 9 year old thread that was full of shit.
Pots are better than holes .
Smart pots are throw away items.
And 5 gallons buckets won't get you thru a full season unless you sucks at growing. Not even 4 weeks.

When I was a true newb some 30+ years ago I was growing better than you, I mean your "friends". I've never grown indoors, nor used artificial lighting. I'll put my best plant this year up against anything you've ever grown, I mean your friends.
