This is the start of my 2009 SoCal outdoor grow. All constructive questions and comments welcome.

Im going to start with the soil and amendments. The soil mix I will use is a variation of Subcool's Supersoil. I will rototill the soil mixture into the clayey soil in my yard and make raised beds (thx for the idea Hodgie). I will also grow some in 20-30 gal pots.

The soil is first mixed and then let to compost since its prety hot. Once composted (1-2 months from mixing), I will load the pots about 1/2 way with supersoil. The next 1/4 above the supersoil will be a mix of supersoil and Gardner & Bloom potting soil. The last 1/4 of the pot will be filled with just G&B potting soil. This approach should ease the roots into the supersoil without burnig.

The Modified supersoil has the folowing ingredients:

16cuft G&B Compost
40 lbs pure worm castings
5 lbs blood meal
5 lbs bone meal
5 lbs bloom bat guano
3 lbs rock phosphate
3/4 c epsom salt
1/2 c sweet lime (dolomite)
1/2 c azomite (trace elements)
2 tblsp powdered humic acid
50 lbs chicken manure (puew!)
5 lbs kelp meal
60 lb bag of pumice rock (instead of perlite

I will post pics of the babies tomorrow.

I received these WC and G13 clones on 4/21. As you can see they were nicely rooted in rockwool cubes. I potted them in plain G & B potting soil with about 15 % perlite. I potted some of them down about 1/2 way since they were a bit tall. Following potting I gave them a drink and set them in the sun.

Its been overcast since the first day but today was sunny but not too hot in the hi 60s. Evenings have been steady at around 51-54 degrees. plants are looking good. Two of the pplants were received in flower and I'm hoping they will revert back to veg.

Otherwise, on 4/24 PM-4/25 AM I sowed 26 seeds of 6 strains. Nothing has poked out of the Rapid Rooters yet. I am keeping them ontop of my aquarium for a little heat (71-78). Will put up a strain list of all surviving seed sprouts.

I will also be mixing all those nice amendments and the compost for ground amending and potted plants. The mix will need to compost befor use.

For chem nutes I dont use all the additives I just use NPK ratios to veg and flower. I use high N to veg of course at varying amounts based on where I am in the grow and what the plants tell me they want. For flower I use PK to guide the way but I also keep some N to keep them green. In veg I use GrowMore 30-10-10. Start with 1/4 strength (7.5-2.5-2.5) or less (1/8)depending on stage of growth and strain. I bump the nute strength up as the plant gets bigger and wants more. You can also use a balanced nute like 10-10-10 for veg, but I really dont use chem ferts for my grows any more.

Can I watch too? Sounds good...
Your are always welcome Hodgy. I need to get my ass in gear to cut some trees for more sun on my area then the rototilling. I may need to take some vacation to do this since I get distracted on the weekends doing other things. How was camping?

Try Orange County Farm Supply for GrowMore ferts (cheapest). THey also haqve them at Armstrongs or Rogers Gardens. Whatevers closest to you. I use OCFS because I buy in bulk like 25 lbs at a time.

They have 30-10-10 and 10-10-10 for grow and 10-30-30 or 10-52-?? for flower. I have to warn you though if you make either of these too strong it will burn the crap out of your plants. I always suggest start very low and work your way up because you can correct a deficienty but if you burn them you will be setback for both schedule and yield, if not done all together.
