I would think that brewing your own beer would be a little more involved than growing a plant. People would have to grow indoors though, lest it gets stolen.

The $300 b number comes from a report that was published in my newspaper a short while back when legalization was being talked about in the news.
To give you an idea of the numbers, it would cost $350 billion in order to create a better oversight system for our greedy banks.

did the paper explain how it obtained this number? The cost controlling and regulating alcohol and tobacco combined don't reach this kind of price tag. Hell even our out of control prison systems or our military don't cost(annually) this much respectively. why would cannabis suddenly cost this much to regulate?

yeah that number seems like bullshit just like anything budget wise that comes out of washington. everybody cant grow and wont grow. good quality weed from a first time grower is not gonna be very common. we all pay for convince of service and product everday in industries and it wont be any different with pot.

It's not as simple as it may seem. You don't just say "hey, it's legal now". You have to create an oversight system; rewrite legislation; create a tax system; and more. Not only would it cost a great deal of money, but it would be hard, nearly impossible, to pass through the House and Senate.
If it would cost $350 billion to create an oversight board for the banks recieving bailout money, then don't you think the complete legalization process would cost about the same amount? That $350 billion would be JUST for oversight to make sure that they spend their money like they are supposed to be doing. These numbers are from an Associated Press article, which you could find by searching their archives.

hay motor i wonder how much of that is added on bullshit for unrelated crap and u now there is. we all know if they want it the prejected cost is low then it goes over budget but if they really dont want it they say it cost way to much with no benefit to the people.

It would still be in the multiple billions regardless. A complete overhaul would be absolutely necessary.
That's why decriminalization is more feasible right now. Legalization will happen within ten years, but the economy needs to be healthy first.

what oversight board charged $350bn? I'll look but if you could link me to the article that'd be great. Personally this price tag seem extremely fishy.
Also the bank bail out and substance regulation are 2 very different things so i'm not sure if we can reasonably say that the costs of one is some out applicable to the other.

The bank oversight that was being discussed would have been a separate regulatory board, other than the currently existing one. This issue came up a few months ago when the media first started reporting about the bank's abusing their bailout funds. In order to be accountable 100%, and keep the banks from repeating their actions, they were saying that we would have to infuse $350 bn into new oversight. Unfortunately, we threw hundreds of billions of dollars at them (for bailout) before we even considered oversight, and it never ended up happening. Shame, because the mess will more than likely happen again at some point in the future.
You are right that they are two different things. It wouldn't be as complicated as bank reformation. The number that they proposed ($350+ bn) for everything legalization is probably incorrect, but the numbers would likely still be high. There is a great deal of work to be done at city, state, and federal levels.

heres a good template for a real budget the same as the alchol what ever it cost for them to operate it should be with in the same range domt u think and what about state pitching in its own support.
