Nutrient Review

I made a reuest in the request section for information and user's reviews of nutrients and supplements that they use.

Rollitup asked if I had a thread in mind....I dont because I havent seen one started on the subject. So here it is.

Nutients/supplements and their pros/cons. There are alot of brands out there and many ways to use them.

If people wouldnt mind posting what they use, how they use it, their experience with the product etc. it would be appreciated.

Organic and chemical based nutrients all should be represented. Hopefully down the line it could get stickied someplace for new users or people looking for info on a particular brand.

I wouldnt want the thread to turn into a battle over who's nutes are the best. This is just a review and comment on what you think the good/bad is about a particular brand.

The more input by the community....the more informative it would be. I hope we can get this going.

this would be great!!!!!!

The only info I have is:

Pure Blend Pro Liquid Karma works well as an additive but in hydro it will turn your roots brown so its hard to tell if you have a problem with the roots like root rot.

OK, I'll bite...

I have used for over a year Technaflora/BC nutes in FF soil. When I first started growing indoors I wasn't sure what nutes to use so I was refered to the "starters kit" by Technaflora. After gaining experience with the whole shee-bang I narrowed them down to the following...

Veg
BC Boost
BC Grow
Thrive Alive B-1
Magi-Cal

Flower
BC Boost
BC Bloom
Thrive Alive B-1
Awesome Blossoms
Magi-Cal
Moleasses

I have a lil over a years experience with indoor growing so I have not used a bunch of nutes. However, I have got better than expected results with Technaflora/BC. I only use at 3/4 strength and have NEVER had nute burn. I use it every 3rd watering and I use clean ph'd water in between. Sometimes, I will add some Alaskan Fish Emulsions at low strength in both Veg & Flower during the 2 waterings between the BC nutes.

By using the clean ph'd water, it also helps keep the salt buildup to a minimum and I have NEVER had nute lockup. I am certainly not saying these are the best nutes available but for the money I get outstanding results. I havest 1.5 - 2.0 oz's per plant using a 400HPS. My plants never seem to be defecient in any nutes and I don't get nute burn. All I get is some outstanding bud.

Question for Rocky Top High or anyone that as experience with Technaflora products,
I just bought the Technaflora 1 gal of Grow, Boost and Bloom for my DWC hydro setup under 400 HID. My question to you is how much ppm should I be using in the following phases:
1) During initial veg
2) Reg Veg
3) Beg Flowering
4)Later flowering
I am a beginner in this and would appreciate what the correct ppm number (600, 950..) for each stage is.
Please reply.
Thanks,
Ne Ne

PPM for Hanna Chart PPM

Seedlings, Early Sprouts 100 to 250

Early Vegging 300 to 400

Full Vegetation 450 to 700

Early Blooming 750 to 950

Full Mature Blooms 1000 to 1600

Note: EC Calculations are different, here's a conversion chart :
heres a great chart that shows how different PPM can be from meter to meter... EC is the only real universal language...

Grow Catalyst and Grow Supplements

In February, I purchased three books on Hydroponics Growing and all three suggested using a Grow Catalyst. All three books said it was needed as a Supplement and as a boost for growth. Two of the books also suggested a Supplement with IRON and MAGNESIUM. I also learned that the submersible water pump can somehow interfere with the IRON in my other nutrients. Somehow the magnets in the pump's electric motor and the increased oxygen does something to the IRON that I can not explain, but I understood. Well, that was all news to me!

The Grow Catalyst I use now is called Liquid Karma and it is in the Hydro Organic Fertilizer section on the StealthhHydro website. . The Supplement is called CAL-MAG and is in the same section. Well, I could not imagine that the Hydroponics Nutrients I was already using could work any better, so I ordered the complete Botanicare Liquid Nutrient Kit and the Cal-Mag both. Man, what a difference they made! All I can say is you ought to try them.

My Wife

My wife often stands over my shoulder watching me, and she enjoys helping me too. When I first opened the box with the Botanicare Liquid Nutrient Kit, she helped look them over and asked "I wonder what these would do to my poor violets?" Truth is her eight assorted violets and her other dozen house plants were not making it through the winter as healthy as she had hoped. So she asked me if she could use them too, and I said "yes, of course". I figured I would let her experiment with her sickly soil plants first, before I experimented with my very healthy hydroponics plants. She first mixed two teaspoons of the Liquid Karma in a gallon of water, and gave each and every plant a half cup taste. Within 5 days, we both saw a very noticeable difference. Then she mixed 2 teaspoons of the Pro-Grow in a gallon of water and fed all of her plants. Her dead Ficus Tree sprouted new leaves and rebounded with new life within 5 days. All of her other plants produced new growth within 5 or 6 days. Then she tried the Pro-Bloom on her African Violets and they are all growing new flowers. She had been saying she was going to re-pot them or toss them out with the trash and buy new ones. Now I think I'll be ordering more of all three for the both of us. I guess you never know how something will work, until you try it. And I guess you can always learn something new too. I certainly did. Now I have to order her some too.

I just wanted to bump this post up.. also as rocky said PLEASE lets not turn this thread into a battle over who's nutes are the best. This is just a review and comment on what you think the good/bad is about a particular
also since nobody is really commenting, I think its ok if we discuss soil and hyrdo

currently I am growing hyrdo
I have just recently switched to technaflora half way through a grow, I was using Advancded nutes, the reason I decided to change was, my friend and I have the same exact setup, just different nutes, his plants simply looked better than mine.. the way we grow is dwc boxes, 40 gallons each 2 feet wide 8 feet long, clones put to flowering Immediately, same everything else, equipment, lights, im talking almost everything .... just looking at the AN nutes (micro grow bloom) on the bottles it says for optimal conditions keep between 5.5 - 5.7.. where with technaflora bc boost, & bc bloom, the bottles say keep between 5.5 -6.5. So my theory is since it has good uptake from a larger range the plants due better with small ph changes, plus we both use RO water and it comes out at 6.0 sooooo theres my 2 cents for who cares.... I also think you get a bit more from your money with the technaflora when looking at costs per litter, and amount of dose needed, plus cost of the actual product. AN is kinda pricey I think the technaflora dosing seems a litte easier too understand as well, at least for me... Im by no means an expert with AN though...im not hating on AN.

thanks .. hope for some other growers input..
ohyeah mircacle grow sucks for soil.. if you didnt know = ) and this is your first dance.:hump::hump::hump:

id like to mention how rad gravity is. it seriously just makes the cola explode with new growth. the bottles kinda expensive, about 30 bux for a tiny bottle but u only use a tiny bit. dont use it full strength, use it half

I just started growing. I decided to use some Water Soluable Miracle Grow nutrients on my plants that are growing in normal potting soil outside. I used it full strength (which is 1tablespoon per gallon of water for outdoor plants) 24-8-16 NPK. After using about three times, my plants have nute burn. I flushed my plants using only a fraction of the nutrients. I will let you know if using a lower strength will work better.

lol read my quote from above... no offense

if your using a soil with fertilizers already in there.. you shouldnt be using much for nutes,, other than maybe some cal and mag, superthrive ... most of the premixed soil, first time growers get is like miracle grow or something similar which has time released nutes, which actually feeds for 3-6 months, so if you start adding nutes to soil, with fert already mixed in there .. nute burn is going to happen..

Thanks for the info. I had no idea. As I said, I've never grown before. Maybe I should research more before I do things. Thx.:peace:

i've been growing for about two years now. i grow in fox farm soil with vermiculite and perlite mixed in. when i pot my plants i stir in two tablespoons of mexican bat guano (10-2-1). i give nutes every other water.

veg: earth juice grow (1 tablespoon/gallon)

bloom: earth juice bloom and earth juice meta k and earth juice catalyst (bloom - 2 teaspoons/gallon) (meta-k - 1 teaspoon/gallon) (catalyst - 1 teaspoon/gallon)

i start grow nutes 2 weeks into 18/6. (usually let my veg periods last for 5-6 weeks) i will usually do a minor flush before bloom, sometimes not. meta k is started one week - three days before switch to 12/12. as soon as i switch to 12/12 i hit those babies with bloom and catalyst. during the duration of my grow (veg and bloom) i mix in some earth juice microblast (2 teaspoons/gallon every third watering) to maintain and correct any micronutrient deficiencies. i stop nutes 1 - 2 weeks before harvest. two weeks before harvest i start giving 1 tablespoon/gallon of blackstrap mollasses.

never had a problem with nute burn. earth juice doesn't seem to ever seem to do it. i love organics because even with no flushing you don't get any of that chemically taste to the weed. just smooth as buttah. i hope that helps someone when they are looking for ways to use ferts and what to use. :peace:
