Question about my grow...

I have 7 healthy baby plants about 2 weeks old (*planted 4/1. I'm just wondering around what time will they begin to flower. Its an outdoor grow in SO CAL. I keep reading about 12/12 hours for proper flowering but I am doing this grow %100 outdoor with only the suns help for light. Will my plants produce proper buds? Also I have all of the plants in different size pots from 3-6 gallon, any comments on that? How can I ensure a big yield? I heard planting directly into ground give better results... Any comments/advice is appreciated

the soil quality and rootmass is what gives you big plants and big yeilds. i suggest using something along the lines of https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/44686-subcools-super-soil.html.

nutrients on the fly are easy, you can use store bought fertalizer or you can make a nutrient compount (compost tea) -->http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles/brewing-compost-tea.aspx

the plants will start to flower around the time they start to get 14/10-12/12 (day/night) and yes they will produce "proper" buds. fact of the matter is a crappy light bulb only puts out 1 spectrum frequency of light and the sun puts out more than the human race can comprehend.............

planting in the ground/pots is debateable, but with in ground you can dig big holes for more root mass, but in pots you can maintain the soil better........ the best way to ensure a good yeild, is happy and healthy plants.

a happy plant needs LOTS of sunlight, a proper feeding schedule, some room to grow and alittle love.

I have always planted in the ground outside. An advantage to using a container is that it can be moved during the day to the best spot of sun if needed. I have also heard that even a 5 gallon bucket can restrict root growth. When putting in the ground i make sure to dig a hole and remove a cubic foot of soil for one plant. Do not use miracle grow, no good. I have recently gone to some organic mixtures with seaweed, fish scales, baked bark and some other interesting ingredients. If you only have 7 plants and they have not been sexed you have a 50% chance of them being male or female. Make sure to pull males as soon as they show to not pollinate the females, unless you dont care about seeds.

Thanks for the quick reply's. you guys answered my first questions ,but I have a couple more. first off how much water should I be feeding my plants? daily? how much? etc. and also about the plants being %50 chance of a male or female, I know how to look for males, and I will toss them out as soon as I see them but, about what week will they begin to show their sex?? as far as the soil im using , its really just dirt from my backyard , with some small rocks in but its clean, and I also mixed some potting soil in there. I can take a picture of all the plants if it would help you guys, to maybe give me some extra pointers/advice Im thinking the pots are too small. THANKS GUYS happy growing

Do not water everyday. Stick finger in soil an inch or two down and see if its moist or not. If they are in containers hopefully you put some rocks at the bottom for drainage and also have holes so the water will be able to get out. Regarding males, you will not know outside till the beginning of August. The light will start getting shorter after June 21(longest day of year), when light nears 12 hours light and 12 hours dark the plant will start to show signs of sex. For soil anything organic is ideal, You dont want to over fertalize either if you are going to do that at all, only once a month or so. Getting good soil will make a big difference in the quality of plant. Even a bag of promix will probably be better than soil from your backyard. I would advise going to your local department store or even walmart and get some decent soil. A picture would be excellent and I would be able to possibly give you more advice if i saw the situation. plants are looking good, soil doesnt look the greatest. Also those pots are not going to be big enough to keep them in the whole time. You can use them for a while, like a month or two, but around that time they will need to be put in ground or bigger containers.

Im thinking I might place them in the ground in about 35 days? what would be the best aproach , ive been reading about topping but not sure when to do it is now ok"?

definitely do not top now, wait til maybe second set of 5 tipped leaves to top. If you are unsure on how to do this, there are tons of posts on this topic. Those containers are way to small to keep those in for 35 days, it will stunt the growth of your plants. Some things to think about are you may stress plants by topping and they may not grow much for a week or so, you may also stress plants by transplanting if root growth is damaged. You may want to wait and top once plants have been put in the ground and have started to grow again quite a bit.
