Nitrogen Overdose? Other Defeciency?

I admit I went about 2 weeks with only checking the DWC buckets two or three times, so pH could have been an issue as there were times it was as high a 6.5 and may have been for several days at a time.

However I have been hitting it pretty hard with nutes and the dark green tint plus burnt tips on some parts of the plant make me think it's N overdose. But I've also read that nute lockout, mainly phosphorus I think? Can cause these claw symptoms as well.

What is kind of weird to me though is the plant is soaking the nutes up that I give it. I bumped it up to 1700PPM on the 28th, I checked it 24hrs later on the 29th and the PPM had dropped to 1200. I thought this was an indication that the plant was defecient or wouldn't cause nute overdose problems.

man you gotta check everyday with DWC. it is the best method to grow with least maintanence but you gotta be vigil.
That being said, your plants look real healthy and somewhat happy. Being a dominant Sativa, that leaf curling and cupping is a sure sign of overfert. ur ppms are very very high for this strain, IMO. I dont go over 1k with an indica.
I would flush that res and renute to around 1k ppms. your res has to be very out of balance pertaining to nute load. It may be sucking up the nutes it is defcient in but you really need to back down the N levels now that she is 5-6 weeks into flowering. very important

I could be wrong, because my assumptions may be incorrect, but I'm not entirely sure it's sativa dominant. The leaves were short and stubby up until this issue arose. Or can a plant begin to show it's sativa dominance later in flowering? I'll attach a pic of the entire plant.

I thought PPM was extremely high as well, but given that the plant, to me, wasn't really showing any signs of nute burn, I thought it was ok. Plus she was just soaking them up.

Should I just put pHd distilled water in for a few days then go with your suggestion of backing down to 1000PPM? Or clean out my bucket and drop straight down to 1000PPM?

I'm using Advanced Nutrients 3-Part, no additives. Their feeding schedule calls for a 1:1:1 in regards to Micro, Grow and Bloom. Should I back off on the Grow since the Micro contains N as well? Maybe more of 1:2:3 G:M:B ratio?

If you're in flowering ignore the Grow part of the formula entirely. I don't even use the Grow formula, just micro and bloom.

ok looking at the new pic, indica is more like it. soaking up those amount of nutes in a short period of time will show burn in a couple of days.
flushing is good idea to remove the salt buil ups as well. Unless ur water is hard, over 250ppms, I would use tap b/c there is a small amount of trace minerals that are not always in the proper nutes, like Ca and mg. either way, you want to refill with fresh nutes. do not run without anything as she will become defcient quickly. 1-1-3 or even better 1-1/2-3. do not cut ur N out totally as she looks like she has some decent tolerance levels and you dont want her going N deficient too soon. I would run this for 2-3 weeks and just keep your eye on ph and ppms daily. also, are you topping off the res every few days? they gotta be drinking a decent amount (which will slow later in flowering). in 2-3 weeks flush the res again and move to 1-0-4.
In my Dwc, what I do is keep my ppms low around 600-900 and topp off every other day alternating between plain water and small amout of fresh nutes. keeps everything balanced. overnight or daily swings in your ph of more than .50 means the nutes are becoming unbalanced in the res.
flush, clean, refill with nutes.
if u r gonna be a continous DWC grower 2 things I would consider: Clearex which is a salt leeching solution u run through your res once, although your plants do not show any real signs of salt build up. the second is a product called Berry Sweet or Citrus Sweet by Botainicare. contains simple sugars and carbs alongwith some extra mg which the plants could always use more of. really, really makes a big difference in your final yield and density and size of your buds. like 25% or more. I use it throughout the life.

Ok so it appears to be recovering, still concerned about pH swings though. New growth is light green and not narrow or tiny or clawing. I lowered it to 950PPM last night using 15mL Micro , 9mL Grow and 24mL Bloom.

pH was 5.2 last night at 9:30 and this afternoon it climbed all the way up to 6.8. Not really sure how to fix this as I'm not sure which part is throwing the balance off.

BTW when they call or a 1:2:3 bloom feeding program, does that mean 1pt Micro, 2pt grow and 3pt bloom? Or is it 1pt Grow, 2pt Micro and 3 pt Bloom? Seems like there is more N in the Micro than the Grow.

Since you are so far into flowering, you don't really need all that much Nitrogen (the first number in the series).

You should be using high Phosphorous and medium levels of Potassium for the flowering cycle.

I typically don't, but this is my first go with Advanced Nutrients and I wanted to try their 1:1:1 feeding suggestion. Obviously doesn't work well, or at least not at the high levels I was using, with this strain. I imagine if I weren't hitting it with so much the 1:1:1 might be alright.

Using distilled water as the local water here is hard (360PPM). Also, all of the pics are of only ONE plant, heh. More of a hedge than a plant .

The outer growth that is darker is the lower 2-4 branches, inner growth is either new shoots off the main branches or the upper nodes. So much LSTing and twisting going on it can be hard to tell.

Yea I've had CalMag on my list for awhile, just haven't needed to go to the hydro store recently.

I washed out the res and let the roots soak in 3G of Distilled Water with 8mL of 35% H2O2 for a few hours. Roots were browning, but I think it's stains from the nutes, but did this to be safe and clean out the roots a bit. pH seems to have stabilized a bit, doesn't climb over 6.0 now, letting it swing between 5.5 and 6.0.

Thanks again for the help. She's recovered quite nicely and the buds are really starting to fatten up. Still some lingering effects from pH lockout, you can see various deficiencies in the older leaves, but new growth is healthy.

Hoping to get a QP or more off of this beastly bitch.
