Grow tents and lighting question?

Ok so my 1st grow seems to be going pretty well and id like to maybe buy a grow tent for my next grow...

Makes much more sense with the holes needed for ventialtion etc and somewhere to hang a carbon filter...

The tent im looking at could hold roughly 8 plants...

Now i want to switch to an air cooled HPS to flower them to get decent yield... so im wondering - for 8 plants, would a 400watter do the job to give me approx. an ounce per plant or should i go for a 600w and will there be much of a difference

Thanks guys.:leaf:

def. go for the 600 if you want 8 plants, but nothing can promise a yield per se. also, fuck the premade tents unless you are rich, make one out of panda film and a moving closet's frame (or multiple). peace, brotha

usually, why? a 600w has a far higher efficiency vs. cost to use than a 400w, and can light a larger area with greater light penetration... also, buying tents = a ripoff. my level of stoned-ness will not change my opinion...

a 4x4x6 tent is a nice clean way to go. Mine cost 119.00. I must be a big time baller:roll:

I would go 600 watt if you can afford it. I have a 400 and a 600 watt in my 4x4 and the heat is a big issue. A good 600w with a nice hood would work just fine. I have both so im using them, lol.

lol i have never heard of panda film but thx for the advice... yeah im using one of my bedroom closets at the moment but the problem is i can only fit in 5 plants max.

I have an identical closet next to it that i was gonna use for propagation so that i have the two rooms and can get a harvest every two months, which i might still do - only problem is im using CFLs at the moment and i was expecting more yield, i know HPS is the way to go if i want decent yield but ive also got to think about cooling that bad boy, i was looking at some air cooled ones on ebay.

Decisions lol

the guy at the grow store around here said the same thing, he was suggesting making one over buying one because of the heat.

I am very satisfied with my current set up...

Air cooled 600 digi (HPS/MH, 110v/220v) over a 48"x48" ebb/flow tray...

Anymore and I would have to raise the light and loose intensity...

I do SOG so I have a bunch of short little plants, so this arrangement works well for me....

nice work gypsybush... since i have a small growspace at the moment someone reccomended that i use a 250w HPS for now... if i did buy one with the ballast etc - would i be able to upgrade to a 600watter later using the same ballast?

thanks!

Ballasts and bulbs MUST MATCH... no way around it...

Some ballasts will accept HPS and MH, but only of the same wattage... and only some ballasts...

I recommend you buy the last light you will ever need...

upgrading is very expensive and wasteful...

Buy a big honking light with a big honking fan and an air cooled hood .. and you will never have to worry about it again...

I upgraded 23.7 times.. and it sucked!!!! and it wasted a LOT OF CASH!!!!

As for small... my tent is 36"x20"... that's 5 square feet... that's 120 watts per square foot...and I had no problems with heat.. and I kept it zipped shut...

If you have proper ventilation, air cooling works...

my 2 cents...

Agreed! And if you get a 600 and want to upgrade. Few would argue with two 600's being better than a 1000.....

I truly believe that for a personal set up, a 600 will do a very fine job...

1k will always beat it with way beefier buds.. but at a higher operating cost (heat)..

I run 600's in my op and can honestly say that I have no desire to upgrade...

I run 48 lollipops on an ebb/flow tray, and I get anywhere from 14 to 32 grams each...

Plenty for me...

But for a big set up... sure 1k all day...
