Is homegrown quality significantly better?

Hi

I decided to seriously looking into growing my own because quite honestly, the crap I buy off the st from friends are not doing it for me.

I won't be an experienced grower but say I get a tent, get an MH and HPS light, start with good seeds, etc, will it be significantly better. Does anyone start growing and then give it up (voluntarily) saying its not worth the time and effort, not the least of which the money?

Thanks

Well when you grow your own, you cure it ALOT better. When you get stuff that originated from large commercial opps, they simply dont have the time to delicately cure it out the way we do, or care for it as closely during growth. Also they probobly dont use the seeds we do, so to answer you, yes it is well worth it, and ive never said this isnt worth my time. It is worth my time in every way, the quality of the product and the excitment of watching em grow and realizing you have learned so much you never thought of in the process, as well as controlling what you put in, for a cleaner product. Even if you buy some that was from good stock, whose to know that person wasn't a total knob, and harvested 3 weeks early to make money. Grow your own, it tastes better always, because you made it, but be carefull and sneaky, its no joke when johnny law comes knockin! And yes a tent will work for ease as a beginner, and I always reccomend HPS, I even use HPS for veg / building, but if you have the cash to aqquire both, by all means get both, if you wanna run em together for flowering id get all HPS. Good Luck, its really not as hard as it may seem, as long as you know the important stuff which you can find on here in these threads.

I will just invite you over to my garden...

I JUST did an update...

I have been growing hydro for less than 6 months...

YOU tell me what you think the quality seems to be, compared to what you have access to...

My advice is to do what I did..

Choose a mentor and follow his recipe...

I am doing exactly what me mentor did, just on a wee bit smaller scale...lol...

Come on over and tell me what you think...

Remember I am a newb and my success is 100% related to me sticking to a proven plan...

Cheers!

To date all I've grown is bag seed and it is as good or beter then the stuff it came from. I will tell you if you like growing a tent just will not be
enough. lol Like Gypsy said hit the faq read some in the forams, ask about things to get a clear picture as a noob it took awhile to get going but it's fun as hell.

There are strains like Haze that no commercial grower will produce because it takes twice as long to grow and has poor bag appeal yet it will blow you away with it's potency.

All of the above, and growing is an ends in itself for most of us - the relaxation, anticipation, satisfaction, freedom of choice, security, ... - I absolutely love growing. Producing more bud than you need leads towards experimenting with hash, kief, tincture, ice cream ... opens a whole new world.

And just to chip in, in my experience home grown bud is more potent than commercial bud, for the reasons stated by the other guys.

i have yet to be somewhere where someone has street-weed that could hold a candle to my homegrown(they dont know its HG of course!).

with that said, its work. you dont buy a light, plant a seed, and get out the umbrella because its not about to start raining weed. its 4-6 months from seed to weed usually when you start fresh, and it can feel looong. plan on spending a small amount of time in your grow each day and a couple hours once a week.

now, with THAT said, i will never buy weed again if i can have any say in the matter. my average cost per gram is $1.50 when retail price is more like $15-20 a gram. AND like i said, mines better.

Yep.
It's like growin your own tomatoes and comparing those to the ones you buy in the store. The ones from the store always SUCK. I'm sure I could use the seed from the ones at the store though, and grow something 10 times better.

okay....everyone keeps giving this post props and for the most part it deserves it. but hes way off on the seeds thing. thats a miniscule expenditure for a commercial grower and they do get the best. they may not waste thier time on low yielding elites but thats the business thier in. to have a commercial grow without top genetics is just plain redundant.

maybe with the weed from where u are. around here people usually grow 4-5 in a bunch of discrete places and dont show up until harvest and some have dropped seeds already then just return and harvest next year. so im not saying your wrong its just how they do it here. like someone else said b4, i strongly believe care and enviroment and that are just as if not more important to quality as genetics cuz the bag seed ive grown came from some mediocre weed but i get bud from em thats high quality nugs(green bud is what we call it here, dunno if everyone else does too). ive always wondered this....if your growing indoors how can you not notice you have a male b4 its too late? its so easy to tell yet people still let their girls get pollinated (not counting the ones who did it for seeds of course) carelessness? you can stop a hermie from seeding up too......i just cut male flowers if i see em and to my surprise it actually worked and stopped em from seeding up. i thought it would be futile the 1rst time but thankfully i tried anyway and off a hermie i just got about a lb wet and a qp dry from a girl who was trying to hermie, completely seedless, no little immature seeds even.

^^ this doesnt describe any commercial grower ive ever known of ^^

sounds like how people grow mids and schwag.

and i never discredited bagseed. i just pointed out that any commercial grower worth his shoelaces uses top genetics and not just any old seeds hes got laying around.

yeah ur right, its more guerilla growing and its low quality. i thought thats what u meant by commercial was people who grow to sell it and dont care about quality. i know u didnt knock bagseed that part was a response to a post further up.

yeah, when i hear commercial i think; 10-20K watts, perpetual harvest, top production strains, the works.

moral of the story is......grow your own holmes!!

things to consider. No more dealing with drug dealers and shady people. Ability to try many strains and understand the difference between strains effects as well as sativa/indica. cost should be down a lot after some experience. putting drug lords/street thugs out of business and off the streets is a big deal to me. Adictive fun result oriented hobby just like a new golfer, tomato gardener, runner etc...
