Newbie with random questions and pics!

Whats up all. Doing my first outdoor medigrow and wanted to get some feedback. First the basics.... I have 12 mixed strains including OG Kush-Sour D/Og Kush- and Champagne. They are in 2 gallon pots with Fox Farm "Happy Frog" soil, receiving 1 teaspoon of Fox Farm Grow Big and SuperThrive per gallon per watering (every 2 days). They are about seven weeks old and are as healthy and vibrant as can be!


I've been going through the forums and am trying to figure out if I should just let the plant grow as it will or use a super cropping, topping, or LST to maximize my yield!

One of the plants is growing particularly weird, but the results seem to be something like the results of LST if I'm not mistaken. The pic "bush" is an OG Kush plant that was straight a few weeks ago but possibly due to the weight of the top of the plant the stem bent over almost diagonally along the soil until it goes back up again. You can see the huge white root/stem extending out of the soil, I pushed back some of the leaves for a closeup of the root. The result appears to have been multiple new lower branch growth, making this much bushier than the rest!

The final picture is a another regular (growing straight up) OG Kush plant. The top has HUGE fan leaves that are mostly blocking sunlight from the newer/lower branch growth...this is where I'm thinking I'll need to do something and quick as the other plants are much the same and I'm afraid the lower half of the plant will be all but worthless without more light getting through..

Feeding every two days is way too often. Especially with chemical grow big. Cut back to once a week or one every two weeks. The plant will tell you what it needs.

wow once a week/2 weeks it's amazing how concentrated that stuff is! The few drops I put in per gallon I always felt like I was doing JUST enough....I like how they've responded so far though so I'll cut back to once a week.....

Also, I plan on growing in an area near a creek and the soil seems to be of high clay content.

From what I've been reading I'm debating on weather to amend the soil 50/50 with the Happy Frog and direct transplant to the ground......, or should I dig a hole and "sink" a 5 gallon bucket with the Happy Frog and cut out the bottom? I'm afraid with the latter I would be restricting the root base from extending width wise and would end up with a smaller plant.....

if ur gona take it out of the 5 gallon pot be CAREFULL. with such a huge amount of earth there, it will fall apart, and rip a load of root off(so it might be a good idea to cut the bottom out. however, if its still in a smaller pot, dig the hole, mix the soil, and transplant it there, if ur using chemical ferts/nutes, the quality of the soil doesnt matter that much if u dig it up and uncompress it to make it easy for roots to grow through. the 50/50 idea seems to be the best

I'm in a similar situation and I'm putting 10 plants in their own 5 gallon buckets. The ground below is pretty wet so I'm going to be keeping them above ground with a 6 inch hole cut in the bottom for the taproot to get down into the water. The soil in the buckets are where the nutes are and they will only be watered enough to keep the roots moist.

buckets in the soil should work, depending on how wet the ground is around it. you should put some holes in them for drainage, but just careful with the moisture, as to much will make your rots rot.

Thanks COMMIE and GIFT. I am leaning towards the bucket in the ground now. Primarily because I will only be able to water 2 maybe 3 times per week and would be easier to be sure of proper saturation when the roots are in a confined space. Still not sure if that would limit the size of the plant since the roots can't grow width wise.

Still would like feedback on what should be done on the super crop/topping ect situation for these plants. The upper fan leaves grow bigger every day and cast even bigger shadows on the rest!

As for your leaner w/ the roots showing .. put it in the soil deeper and straighten it as u re-pot it (or put it in the ground ) anything of the stalk that you put below soil will sprout new roots .. it probably fell over because the roots aren't set ..or the soil is too loose

Shuld just train the lower branches to come out further to the sunlight then let them grow back up. Re tie them and train them to get out the shadows and in the sun to produce

yes! I just got done going through Uncle Ben's post and I think with me being a beginner it would seem to be the most dummy proof solution! I think I will ax em tomorrow!!!

In regards to preflowering.......do all plants preflower??? I've read so in the FAQ's that they will, but I am pushing two months and still don't have any indication. Due to security reasons they need to leave the location to a "guerilla" area and I would much prefer to know the sex before they are taken out there!

To be sure .. you can put 'em under 11/13 lights (hps) (or less) .. for a few days .. just until they start to show sex .. then bring em back out .. yeah they all get preflowers .. unfortunately .. I've been tricked by the preflowers they occur at the nodes .. look for definite hairs .. but .. I'd rather be SURE ! Not sure about cfl's to determine sex .. I'll leave that to others but I think .. if you cut the light hours (cfl) down to eleven .. or even a little less .. they will show sex in a few days

If u put em in low light situation .. they will begin to show sex in a few days .. then bring 'em back out into good sun .. they will return to veg state.

I'd rather be sure of the sex by shortening light hours
