Hey there,
I am thinking about startining to grow. However I only have $140 or so. Is that enough money to get one or two plants growing nicely? It would have to be indoors and organic or hydro preferred. Thanks for help

I am not sure how to set cfls up though. HPS and MH just make more sense to me. How many cfls would I need for two plants?

i just seen a thread a few minutes ago with a fella who made a 250 watt hps for $30 ....and theres a few threads on all the different types of hydro youd make a brilliant dwc for in around $50 for a good size 1 ... or go on to ebay loads of good prices about a month ago on ebay.ie i could have got 2 400 watt hps for 90 including delivery ... hope i helped..

Would it be best to just go to the hydro store and buy a 400w hps light a pot and some organic soil from there and thats it? I know I will need nutrients and such but how much extra would that cost?

dude go hps, i think you can find one of the 400w in ballast systems for right about what you want to spend. some more info would be helpful too like do you already have seeds, soil and nuetrients? either way hydro is gunna take money away from everything else so with the budget you have i would say to go with soil. what i have going seems to work really well and i probably spent around what you did.
my lighting situation is one 150w hps in-ballast unit that cost me 75$, 7 cfl reflectors 4 @ 7.50 each and three i found in the basement, BTW the reflectors are already wired and can be found at walmart and lowes, 7 y sockets at 1.50 a piece, 7 - 26w 2700K cfl's and 7 - 26w 6500K cfl's at like 1.50 each, 4 - 2.5 gallon pots 2$ each, cosco bag of sta-organic soil 8 bucks and FF big bloom and peace of mind at 15 and 10 dollars each. my setup is in a colder already veltilated area so depending on the room costs could be higher

That's the thing to do right there. The nutrients in the soil will last a few weeks and if you get big containers you probably won't have to fertilize until flowering.
