lol, whoever told you that is trying to kill your plants!!!

if they have just sprouted like last couple of days then maybe you should use a humidity dome,
but atleat raise the light over 12 inches away untill there stronger,

to be honest ive never used an mh lamp, i veg with 450w of envirolites and flower under 400hps,

afaik mh lamps run hotter than hps and i need atleast 8inch between lamp and plants when im flowering so for younger plants id keep it further away,

by the way ideal temps are between 72 and 74, humidity should be 40%rh or higher during veg and 20%rh or lower during flower,

As high as possible, save yourself some grief and use floros until they get a little bigger.
