diy 3" PVC wye+Combo T/shrub=PICTURE

hey guys im finishing up this setup for my tomatoes, my friend is normaly on this account, but i made a smaller design of something i saw on net and i thought id ask about it on here considering knownledge is around this place.

anyways im havin problems with the watering system,

3" pz of PVC,connected to a combo T,then into a shrub sprinkler

my question is, the cap on the Y has a hole put through top so i can have shrub sit at top inside, i was wondering am i gonna need to glue the pz of pvc i cut into the Y, or can i leave it unglued, my question is with Y standing up is it gonna leak upwards out side of Y where i put piping/cap

the normal way is someone used those exspensive rubber caps.

there will be a bunch of these y's connected to a 400gph pump if that helps,

i have 2 rows of y's, i didnt wanna have to cement again, iv read in a thread on DIY icmag someone with a vert system didnt glue the y's to spacers <- " 3" pvc drain pipe pc's i cut"

anyways heres a pic you think that will work without glue/ and without a damn leak?

ahh i was goona make a vertical system like this with the y'ss theres a few systems out there...best way is make a 4 foot diameter octagon and have 7 corners with the 3 inch pipe sticking up..then stack 8 of these on top of each other for each side....to connect them to each other get a smaller diameter pipe that will slide in there..then cut a ton of them soo each one can fit together...at the top get a rupper cap and for for feed lines..either runn one line at the top of each tower and have 3 inch net cups with rocks or have drippers at each spot..either way its a good system...

as you can see i already stated that rubber caps can be used, im trying to do something different.

i wish i had a icmag account i wanted to post a reply on that DIY vert thread with the cooler the 20 site thing, i think he says he dont glue , the thing with my setup is pressure will be at top of the cap's etc! so its questionable!.!!!

but i think the good part is, if i try my setup, it leaks, i can dry it off, and glue it ... (the water system part anyways) rest i got already cemented

i tried with shrub sprinklers but it takes alot of pressure i think..

any other idea's on how to diliver water?

i could do drip but thats gonna be alot more money i dont have.

and what about pvc pipeing? i could run pvc pipe around with misters?

ahh man the easiest would be one drip line from the top..get like a 800 pump....and have 3 inch net cups with hydroton...as the plants grow the roots will grow into the chamber and all you have to do is feed water to the top part of the tubes and it will run down...or make one of those vertical pipe dream ebb and fow setups..\

you can get regular brown/black caps made for pipe systems for buck or 2 each at most hydro shops they pop inside the pipe and have a lip that seals them tight.. 3 inch pvc is gonn abe pretty small and confining though

yes how many cups in a 5kg bag of that hydroton, good idea a drip slow would work with some medium .

filthyF glad to get a reply from ya, ill take a look at those plastic or?..

i sorta wanted to do mister setup but it would be so bulky im trying to cut down on that right so , pvc would be a big mess considering my y's arnt lined up the best lol..

how good that pvc cement seal with primer?

The pvc cement and primer are water tight as its what plumbers use when pipeing your house. once its on it is never coming apart you ll have to cut them apart

yes true,

i might have some 360o misters in the near future hopefully!!! they require more gph correct?

i set up the test water system like in pic i posted it works ok i think but not leak tight could use some rubber seals if i could figure out how to get it over the 1/2 threaded pz, its like seal free tho might do half shrub sprinklers and a few misters if possible?.ahh my stomach i need tomatoes ha

ahh thats a good idea...the 360 degree misters..in side the tubbing...you wouldnt need that big of a pump...depending on the size of how big wanted to goo.... but if i were doing misters...just drill on the back side of the wyes and have a gromit there then feed your line in with a mister on the end of the line in the tube....it would be like those pipe dream setup aero syles.... they work really well...

do not use spinner type sprayers or the kind that are round like a little barrel with holes around it as those clog very easy and the spinners will fail at any point from build up or roots. Use the red split kind i show in my threads as these are designed for inside chamber growing no partys to fail or clog. You couls use a silicon caulk at the joints. Its water prrof but if you need to open the system a razor removes it quickly and easily

I realize this is an old thread, but if anyone's still wondering the answer, I've got shrub sprinklers in the top of mine and they work great.
