Is 1 ft. depth enough for a small closet grow?

Hey everyone, first time poster here.

I want to start my first grow pretty soon and I've been checking websites of local places around here and I can't find any really good cabinets that have a bigger depth that 12".

So I was just wondering if I would be able to pull of a successful grow in a cabinet with a depth of 12".

If this is good, I plan on having a cabinet with dimensions of about 3'Hx2'Wx1'D.

That's small. I have a small plant that is 15" tall in week 3 of flower...She prolly will get to be around 20" tall at finish. That is small. Figure the pot is going to add a good 10" to height. You need room above that for lights. I'd say atleast 8" more. Then the fact that they tend to grow out almost as much as up.

Can you build a box from lumber that is 3.5' tall x 3' wide by 2' deep? Just a thought.

Building a box would be a possibility.

Would it make a lot more sense to just build it yield-wise?

It is possible to grow in a small dimension like that... its called Lowryder, its an autoflowering strain.

I've seen some people grow them in a plastic cup through its entire life and pull off like 10 grams from it.

Thats the only thing I can think of, I get like dieselryder or blueryder short variants of lowryder, plus the more potent of the bunch.

You would be really tight on space though man...

and the main concern is I dont think you would be able to ventilate a small place like that without leaving it open.

Alright, I've actually found a decently priced cabinet with the dimensions of 60"Hx30"Wx16"D.

Any ideas on a set-up for those dimensions? (i.e. Should I divide it into two sections, how many plants, CFL bulbs?)

Boxes are just about the easiest things to build out of wood...If you have a hammer, nails and wood...you are home free. A saw or a drill to cut holes for the lights to go through might be nice. Bigger holes for vents/fans would be luxurious...as would a door with hinges. (you are going to need them as your plants need air circulation)

None of these things are difficult to do. Paint the inside a flat white.

Yes I think it would be superior to many boxes that you pay for...would end up being slightly cheaper and of course you then have perfect control over the dimensions.

Plus nobody knows what a pile of lumber and nails are for. You buy a grow closet and 99.9% you are safe...but they KNOW what it is for.

My 2 cents.

I agree with Anjinsan. If your a little paranoid, it would be best to build a cabinet. And whole lot cheaper.
