Yep... like a 1/2 curled/spiral tube... What I've used for veg and they work great are two 26W CFL (100w incandescent eq) on a Y splitter $15.00 for all.. that will do 1 -2 plants no problem..but more is better.....

i live in ireland mate a cfl light would cost me about 10 euro and that is about $14.. I had 2 of them cfl's and they broke! Now i have 2 incandesnt bulbs in.. Will they do till tomorrow evening? Or will my plants die? They are only seedlings they aint evn come threw thesoil yet. And dont you no the way its says on clf lights that 11w = 60w.. why is that? Sorry for all the questions but im still learning:)

these are cfl's

incandesnt bulbs won't work but t-5's or t-12's work

these are t-12's the t-5 are skinny.

If they haven't broken soil yet good... I don't put light on them (sun only), till a couple of days AFTER the round leaves (cotyledons) have opened and the little fan leaves (sawtooth) are forming and starting to open... too easy to toast them....
when you put them in containers leave about 1.5" room at top of pot to add soil to support seedling in case of stretch... lots don't and fight to hold up a Sir Stretch a Lots... if they stretch bury right up to bottom leaves.. Luck...

Check charts in my sig link..

your plant wont die overnight, but incandescents will def. not work.

the reason it says 11w=60w is that the cfl puts out light equivilant to 60 watts while only using 11 watts. the smaller number is the only number you need to pay attention to since it is actually an 11 watt bulb. try and get the bulbs that say 23w=100 watt. or bigger than this if you can get them. the higher the wattage the better. i have pulled good results using flouros. quality was good, yeild wasnt really though. good for personal. i actually have five plants in flower using like 2-3 cfl bulbs per plant. i have a 400 watt hps in the mail cause my plants are getting to big for the cfls.

you probably know this but once they are a couple weeks old and older keep the bulb like 2-3 inches from the plant for best results. good luck man

Ok i am going to go out tomorrow to get 3 cfl light bulbs as i only have 3 light holders. I have a 400w cfl on the way from germany but something wrong with credic card wich fuckes up my plan completely. I had a cfl, ballast, pots, nutrients, and some seeds on the way im soooo pissed off! i will have to borrow like 40 euro to get those lights and i already spent 200 euro on better lights

Incandescents 'work'... they just grow really shitty plants.

T5's or T8's are the best fluoros to use, CFLs are also good, as they emit a lot of light in a much smaller space, so it can be much more intense than strip/tube fluoros(unless you have a 4x or 8x array of tubes, which could be up to 20k to 40k lumens respectively... which is 13-25 26-watt CFLs, so 150% of the wattage for the same amount of light).

since your plants havnt even even broke soil i wouldnt worry too much. keep the incandscents probably like 6-10 inches away from the soil, they can get hot. (that is a guess i have never used incadscents, just make sure it is not too hot). they will be fine. a 400 watt cfl?? never seen one. the biggest one i have seen is 63 watts, which i think was equivalant to a 150 watt bulb ( not sure thought) maybe a 400 watt hps or a mh bulb??
